I added Bloodghast back to the deck in the sideboard. I know that seems like an odd inclusion but I had an epiphany the other day. One of the things I like about this deck was the ability to win fast and also play the control route. I couldn't always do both and Bloodghast is good at fast but not at control. However, there are certain matches where I need fast. Tron is one of those. The game plan against Tron is now to side out all sweepers and Molten Vortex. We bring in Bloodghast, the last Gatekeeper, and 3 Molten Rain. The idea is that Rain helps us keep the opponent off of Tron but also nukes them for a little bit in the Process. Bloodghast is fast damage. Gatekeeper is also another 2 drop to speed up the clock.
There are other decks where a similar strategy is extremely effective. Jund is a good example of that. Jund wins through dealing with your threats. They can't ever really deal with Bloodghast efficiently. Molten Vortex isn't as effective against Jund because they run Abrupt Decay. Decay also hits Ghast but so what? Ghast comes back where Vortex doesn't. Gatekeeper is awesome card advantage against Jund. Its very often a 2-for-1 since they lose a creature and a removal spell dealing with it. This speeds up our list and taxes their removal to the brink.
