Horde Magic is divided up into two factions: The Horde (the deck that runs automatically) and The Survivors (the players).
Ratio: 120 (tokens):80 (non-tokens) - 110 2/2 zombie tokens and 10 5/5 zombie giant tokens
Win conditions The Horde wins if The Survivors' group life total is reduced to zero or below. The Survivors win if The Horde has no cards in its library, no cards in its hand, and no creatures on the battlefield.
Turn Variants depending on deck styleTokens With tokens, the players act as one player (similar to two-headed giant). After 3 turns of set up: the horde, then players, then horde, then players, etc.All creatures controlled by The Horde have Haste and "This creature must attack each turn if able."
Rules for The Horde The Horde has no player, it pilots itself. Any choice The Horde must make should be made as randomly as possible. The Horde has an infinite amount of mana at all times. The Horde's turn starts by revealing cards from the top of its library until a non-token card is revealed. All revealed tokens are then cast. The revealed non-token is cast. Then, if applicable, The Horde casts any cards that can be cast from its graveyard as well as any cards it has in its hand. The Horde has no life total. Damage dealt to The Horde causes that many cards from the top of The Horde's library to be put into its graveyard. Players may elect to burn the bodies instead of milling the horde deck, where cards are exiled from the hordes graveyard instead (1 card per 1 point of damage).
Rules for The Survivors The Survivors have three turns to set their defenses before The Horde gets its first turn. Then turns alternate like normal. Each Survivor contributes 20 life to the group life total.
Adjusting the difficulty of The HordeDepending upon the number of players and/or the type of decks being used by The Survivors, it may be necessary to adjust some of the aspects of the game in order to set the difficulty of the game to a preferable level. The following are ways to adjust the difficulty and power level of The Horde: -Adjust the number of turns in which The Survivors have to prepare. -Adjust the amount of life each of The Survivors contributes to the team. -Exile a random portion of the Horde Deck prior to the first turn. -Card Selection during the Horde Deck construction and/or a sideboard. -Replace random choices by The Horde with consensus decisions by The Survivors. -Allow tokens to remain in the graveyard instead of ceasing to exist. -Allow or disallow The Survivors to attack The Horde during their set-up turns. -Adjust the token to non-token ratio. -Increasing the non-token cards revealed At the end of each horde turn, a counter is increased by 1 for each player in the game. When this counter hits 10 or more, reduce it by 10, and give the horde an emblem. The horde starts with 1 emblem. The horde reveals cards until X non-token cards are revealed, where X is the number of these emblems they have.
Challenge Mode (no tokens in deck)Non-token Without tokens, the players act individually, with the horde acting in between each player turns. After 4 setup turn cycles: player1, then the horde, player2, then the horde, player3, then the horde, etc. ***Note: the horde is to act X times per cycle, where X is the number of players that started the game.
Rules of the challenge:
The Horde takes a turn after every players Turn. Steps order goes normally, except the horde doesn't draw and cast the top card(s) of its deck during its first Main phase.Per round the horde always acts x times turn per round of the table were x is the number of player(s). Even if a player died.At the end of round 8, after the last player ended its turn, the horde cast the top 2 cards of its deck. The upgrade goes on every 4 turns. Ex: T12 cast 3, T24 cast 6.The horde attack the player with the least life or a single player at random if there is a tie between the lowest life total. It also attack each turn if able. The player(s) win if all zombies are dead and the zombie deck is empty. Of course the player(s) lose when they are all dead.Effect wise the Horde has infinite life points and can't be attacked. The other players are still treated like opponents, it's up to you to determine if casting cards like Exsanguinate are worth it. You can also attack other players. If the horde gets to draw more cards of some of his creatures goes back to his hand he can cast these at his next Main phase 1 or 2.
Suggestive/specific Rules:No infinite combo. It breaks the challenge and makes it boring to play...Human tribal only. Makes the challenge more flavorful.Cards like Propaganda and sphere of safety could be banned. You can also choose the the cmc of a zombie is "mana" and the horde taps the smallest cmc first (token being excluded) to "pay" for the bigger zombies until it can attack with all the remaining zombies on the battlefield or no cmc is still available. Exp: Nekusar, the Mindrazer would tap for 5 mana.
