Maybeboard


Here we have a deck with one simple strategy in mind, amass as many +1/+1 counters as possible on my creatures until they overwhelms opponents. My first deck used a graveyard mechanic and there was a bit too much going on which made it hard to get the cards I was looking for. This is a more stream-lined response to that that should scale nicely for short or long games.

First and foremost is the commander, Vorel of the Hull Clade which can cheaply make a lot of counters depending on what's already on the field.

There are also a good number of enchantments and artifacts that build up counters over time: Ring of Evos Isle , Ring of Kalonia , Forced Adaptation , Death's Presence , Hardened Scales , Inexorable Tide , Doubling Season . And a couple sorceries that can help big: Increasing Savagery and Biogenic Upgrade . As well as a couple of lands: Novijen, Heart of Progress and Oran-Rief, the Vastwood .

Most of the creatures also contribute to the swell of counters, primarily: commander Vorel of the Hull Clade , Avatar of the Resolute , Forgotten Ancient , Galloping Lizrog , Kalonian Hydra , Primordial Hydra , Ravenous Slime , and Vigor . And we can't forget the planeswalker: Vivien of the Arkbow who can also bring out counters.

There are also a few cards that can help move counters around when beneficial: Combine Guildmage , Forgotten Ancient , Bioshift , Power Conduit , and Power Conduit which actually creates a new counter rather than just shifting ones so it also triggers abilities that create extras like Doubling Season . Useful to reset a creature with the Evolve ability or to dump a game-winning amount on something unblockable like Elusive Krasis .

I threw in some cards that give me trample or unblockable to help get the pumped up damage through to opponents: Zegana, Utopian Speaker , Herald of the Secret Streams, Avatar of the Resolute , Elusive Krasis , Galloping Lizrog , Kalonian Hydra , Primordial Hydra , Vigor , and Ring of Kalonia . There are also quite a few cards that allow me to clear some of my opponent's creatures with my beefed up guys: Prey Upon , Mutant's Prey , Simic Manipulator , Titanic Brawl , and Vivien of the Arkbow .

Made sure to have some protection for my creatures to try to keep them out as long as possible. Shroud/Hexproof: Plaxcaster Frogling , Ring of Evos Isle , and Simic Charm . Damage mitigation: Hindervines and Vigor . Indestructible: Inspiring Call .

I always love having some control in my decks so there's a few standard counter spells: Counterspell , Spell Rupture , Familiar's Ruse , and Essence Capture which throws in another bonus +1/+1 counter. A few cards to disable opponents creatures: Sleep , Claustrophobia , Applied Biomancy , and Gridlock (helpful to diffuse defenses if I wanna take a big swing).

Finally, a little extra fun to make things interesting. Flicker and bounce backs if I want to retrigger any "when enters the battlefield" effects: Ghostly Flicker , Simic Charm , Applied Biomancy , Familiar's Ruse , and Simic Growth Chamber . And duplication spells to get doubles of my more useful creatures: Altered Ego , Progenitor Mimic , Cackling Counterpart .

I'm feeling pretty good about this setup so far but I'd love to get some feedback. If anybody knows of anything else that could help me move counters around please let me know!
