Introduction:

I always was a angel enthusiast, so when Khaldhein release so much support for this tribe, i decided to change my mono-white angel tribal with Bruna, the Fading Lightfoil   to a Orzhov deck with Liesa, Shroud of Duskfoil. Cards like Rampage of the Valkyries and Firja's Retribution that push me to make that change, i just think they are really awesome.

The choice of Liesa, Shroud of Duskfoil to pilot this deck was a no-brainer, not just because was angel, but there was enough lifelink synergy in the tribe to make this work. So having an angel in Orzhov and with enough synergy withing the creatures of the tribe, plus the cards from Khaldhein, sprung this list.

Here it is, a fun angel tribal deck.

Passages of "Dusk Reborn" history, from Midnight Hunt:

Liesa called on her light, let power crackle down the pronged blade of her spear. This blow struck true, glancing from the demon's back and slicing loose one of his flapping, shriveled wings. This time his sly grimace was one of pain. The ground itself buckled under her. Liesa leaped, and the ground crumbled; ashes, rot where there had once been growth. She spread her wings.

Flight felt clumsy, but the crisp air was rejuvenating. She called on the old power within her, half-remembered, all that had traveled with her when she was nothing, and poured it into her blade. Like a falcon she swept down, and though the Buried Lord slashed at her wings, he was yet slow.

Liesa drove the spear deep into the demon's spine. His shriek split the earth beneath him, and he disintegrated, folding in on himself—and with a shiver of the last veil of his wings, he was gone. Not dead, but gone—for now.

Liesa had returned at the darkest hour, a time of struggle, called by the desperate and the lost. More and worse lay before them, this small covenant. In the cold moonlight, Liesa felt that old hope rekindle in these words, in their shared knowledge. An oath of grief. An oath of hope.

On a Plane of endings, here, at last, came a new beginning.

Deck Breakdown:

- The Basics

- The Hordes of Heaven

Casting Disciple of Bolas while Rampage of the Valkyries is in the fild, targeting the 4/4 angel token, make you gain 4 life, draw 4 cards and make all of your opponents sacrifice a creature.

The same thing can be done using Krav, the Unredeemed or Eradicator Valkyrie as sac-outlet and using the triggers from Rampage of the Valkyries to make opponents sacrifice their creatures, (double sacrifice in the case of Eradicator Valkyrie), it is possible using the reccurrent token makers such The Book of Exalted Deeds, Righteous Valkyrie, Resplendent Angel, Black Market Connections and others.

  • Bolas's Citadelfoil (when this get to do his thing, 100% the time, got me the win)
  • Akroma's Will (to get that extra punch on that swing, gets one or two players out sometimes)

Final Thoghts:

Lifelink is not the most optimal way of building Liesa, Shroud of Duskfoil, but is all about the flavor. The deck did not strugle to make life, having her in the command zone always guarantee the life gain, speciale because is so easy to bring her back.

The punch from the angels plus the life drain ability from Liesa, Shroud of Duskfoil is very effective, it's beeen a very agresssive deck, more than i antecipated, it makes our opponents have to deal it with every "big boy" that i put on the field, or else it gets really annoying to take those big hits.

Note: The maybeboard is composed of cards that i own, but did not make the final list, some of them where in the deck at some point, but for a reason or another was cut. I might put back in, one or other, if i feel the need.
