PSA: This is part of a deck building challenge my playgroup did. The deck was only allowed 1 non creature spell if you wanted, otherwise all creatures and lands

Welcome to Animar's Wildlife Sanctuary

                        Ferocious Beasts and Exotic Creatures Galore

The great and mighty elemental wildlife expert, Animar, Soul of Elements, bids you a fair welcome to his humble establishment of amazing and exotic wildlife. This deck features a neat twist, whereas there is only creatures and lands in the deck. None of that hocus pocus or fancy techonological advancments that other establishments employ. This is nature at its finest.... or freakiest, you can decide for yourself.

This deck is designed to take full advantage of Animar's cost reduction for creatures, so I can cast the big beefcakes for practically nothing and take over the board, while simutaneously building up Animar's power to be able to swing for lethal commander damage. So lets take a look at the crew that man the zoo and all the amazing and wild attractions shall we?

With all these special creatures, you got to have special Pens and grounds to hold them in.

The humanoid creatures of the Wildlife Sanctuary help keep everything running smoothly, training the animals and exotics, maintaing the grounds, and keeping everyone else in line.

  • Arwen, Weaver of Hope - Gives all of my other creatures +1/+1 counters equal to her toughness, so she benefits from having counters placed on her as well.
  • Augur of Autumn - Let's me play lands and creatures from the library.
  • Beast Whisperer - Provides ample card advantage.
  • Beastcaller Savant - Great mana ramp creature with haste.
  • Biophagus - low cost mana dork that puts a +1/+1 counter on the creature I'm casting, it's perfect.
  • Bloom Tender - great mana dork for a 3 color commander like animar.
  • Delighted Halfling - A 1 cmc mana dork that can make animar or any other legendary uncounterable.
  • Destiny Spinner - makes everything uncounterable at a super low cmc.
  • Glen Elendra Archmage - Another counterspell option that has recursion. And since I run a +1/+1 counter subtheme, it becomes very abusable.
  • Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea - Adding 2 mana of any color and having the ability to untap itself while adding +1/+1 counters is a solid fit.
  • Herald of Secret Streams - Another great card to help make my creatures unblockable.
  • Incubation Druid - mana dork that generates more mana when it has a +1/+1 counter which fits the subtheme of the deck.
  • Master Biomancer - Gives all my creatures a much needed boost to take opponents out faster.
  • Nylea, Keen-Eyed - Provides an addition cost reduction and gets creatures into my hand faster.
  • Pir, Imaginative Rascal - I have a +1/+1 counter subtheme for the deck and this little guy will help bulk my creatures, plus he makes it where I get 2 counters on Animar for every creature I cast.
  • Profaner of the Dead - Great way to wipe out my opponents board state, can combo with a legendary Eldrazi to shuffle my graveyard back into my library at the same time.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge - Auto include, and an absolute beast in a deck with nothing but creatures.
  • Rashmi, Eternities Crafter - This card is great, with so many high CMC spells in the deck, I should be able to cast a free creature almost every turn with him out.
  • Reclamation Sage - Great removal tool.
  • Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - A unique mana dork whose mana generation goes with Animar.
  • Shaman of Forgotten Ways - Great ramp card and the an alternate wincon through his psuedo Biorhythm activated ability.
  • Shaman of the Great Hunt - provides a solid way to add +1/+1 counters to my creatures while also providing a great draw engine.
  • Stratus Dancer - Morph creature that provides a great counterspell.
  • Surrak and Goreclaw - provides much needed haste and a +1/+1 counter to all of my creatures when they etb.
  • Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - locks out opponents while giving me another source to flash my creatures onto the battlefield.
  • Tishana, Voice of Thunder - Potentially big bodied creature that nets me a lot of card advantage.
  • Venser, Shaper Savant - Great for stopping nasty spells or getting rid of pesky permanents. Super abusable with Deadeye Navigator.
  • Vizier of the Menagerie - Help get creatures my deck into play and helps with mana fixing.

In order to maintain a wildlife sanctuary, you have to have wildlife. Many different species make up the vast ecosystem at Animar's Wildlife Sanctuary, you will not be disappointed with the attractions here.

  • Apex Devastator - A huge creature that cascades 4 times that I can potentially cast for 2 mana. Need I say more?
  • Archetype of Endurance - Provides ample protection for all of my creatures.
  • Birds of Paradise - Great mana dork to help get the game rolling.
  • Caustic Caterpillar - 1 mana creature that can remove an enchantment or artifact without relying on an etb ability.
  • Consecrated Sphinx - One of the best creatures for providing card advantage in the game.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth - Buff all my creatures for each creature I control? In an all creature deck? Yes please.
  • Kalonian Hydra - I run quite a few ways to get +1/+1 combos, so this guy will be a great fit. Also just comboing with Animar will make him an allstar.
  • Keruga, the Macrosage - provides a great amount of card advantage with the relatively high average cmc of the deck.
  • Murkfiend Liege - Buffs a huge chunk of my creatures and untaps them every turn, allowing me to continue to use mana dorks to flash in more creatures and have blockers.
  • Nikya of the Old Ways - Nets me a huge amount of mana, and since I don't run any noncreature cards, the downside of this card is nonexistent.
  • Peregrine Drake - Untapping lands is always good, especially when I can combo it with Temur Sabertooth for infinite mana.
  • Silverback Elder - Gives me a great outlet to get rid of enchantments and artifacts, while still having the option for ramp or lifegain.
  • Sylvan Carytatid - Cheap mana dork with a decent sized backside for potential blocking.
  • Temur Sabertooth - this amazing cat protects itself and lets me bounce creatures to keep getting crazy cast triggers over and over.

Every animal refuge has to have a place for exotics creatures from far away planes. And Animar's Wildlife Sanctuary is no exception. We have spirits, elementals, even the mighty Eldrazi on display for all.

  • Acidic Slime - Great removal tool with deathtouch.
  • Ancestral Statue - Goes infinite with Animar.
  • Bane of Progress - Ultimate removal creature, doesn't hurt me in the slightest and can completely destroy an opponents board state.
  • Defiler of Vigor - let's me pay life to cover a green pip and gives all of my creatures a +1/+1 counter for every green creature I cast. Basically my own Cathars' Crusade
  • Draining Whelk - Great counterspell that buffs itself.
  • Forgotten Ancient - the counters this gets from my opponents can be moved either onto Animar or I can spread the love to all of my creatures, which creates great synergy with Thundering Raiju
  • Hullbreaker Horror - fantastic removal piece or a great way to get around uncounterable spells.
  • Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant - amazing stax piece similar to nullstone gargoyle, and can duplicate the few artifact creatures I have.
  • Kami of Whispered Hopes - a mana dork with a high ceiling and increases the amount of counters I get on my creatures.
  • Kodama of the West Tree - provides trample and great ramp with all my ways to "modify" creatures.
  • Maelstrom Wanderer - Provides haste and that double cascade is insane.
  • Malanthrope - This can stop the recursion player while beefing itself up nicely.
  • Nullstone Gargoyle - Helps lock opponents up when trying to interfere with me, while simultaneously slowing down their own gameplan tremendously.
  • Painter's Servant - Can change everything to black or white, making animar nearly unstoppable.
  • Seedborn Muse - Always a powerhouse for defense. Gives pseudo vigilance and makes it where I have mana to cast more creatures on other peoples turns.
  • Soul of the Harvest - Provides ample card advantage.
  • Spark Double - great clone effect that can even copy animar for added redundancy or shenanigans.
  • Spellskite - low cost creature that gives added protection to animar or another important creature. Can also steal a beneficial spell or ability that would target a creature my opponents control.
  • Thundering Raiju - I'm going hard with the counters theme, so this provides a fun offer sive weapon.
  • Toothy, Imaginary Friend - provides a great offensive threat and card advantage threat if targeted with removal.
  • Tyrant Guard - This basically gives me Heroic Intervention on a body.
  • Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre - Removal, annihilator, and allows me to shuffle my graveyard back into my library.
  • Urabrask the Hidden - Provides haste and slows down my opponents creatures.
  • Vigor - Great for both defense and offense, allowing me to attack or block without worrying about my creatures dying from combat damage. Also Pairs incredibly well with Grothama, All-Devouring for huge gains.
  • Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider - what can I say? He doubles my counters while halving my opponents. Pairs ridiculously well with Kalonian Hydra and Vigor.

Updates Add

These 2 sets brought some new toys and really help solidify the +1/+1 counter theme. I now essentially have Heroic Intervention, Cathars' Crusade, and Aura Shards all on bodies. And in a deck with nothing but creatures and lands, they should all do really well.
