There is but one rule: Hunt or be Hunted.

Welcome to my Nekusar deck!

My favorite color combo is Grixis and the first deck I ever built was Zombies so naturally I wanted to abuse Nekusar as soon as I saw his potential. After a little bit of time spent using The Gatherer advanced search I found so many beautiful cards were available to shove into this sort of deck. While there is a heavy focus on hitting wheels there are other ways to win if somehow the combos just don't come. I didn't design it around being competitive it's more about having fun. Suggestions are always welcome and they have helped to shape this deck into what it is today!

Love at first sight is the best way to describe my feelings when I discovered this bad boy. A lot of EDH decks have their own sources of draw advantage which makes him one of the best anti-fun commanders there is. Smile without fear enjoying the looks on opponents' faces as they calculate whether their next bit of draw power is worth it or not.

Nekusar, the Mindrazer: The Ace of Spades, everything about this card suits having a deck build around it. With draw damage, card advantage and forcefeed stacked onto one body it's hard not to be excited by his damage potential. Though he can be a potent indirect player assassin he can also be a target for hate which told me that either I needed to protect him or build a list that could win without him. Naturally, I did the latter.

This deck focuses primarily on dealing damage by punishing players, most typically opponents, for drawing cards. The main staples are sources like Underworld Dreams and obviously Nekusar, the Mindrazer. Cards like Phyrexian Tyranny hit everyone at the table but it's almost always a worthwhile sacrifice. There are also certain standouts like Psychosis Crawler or Seizan, Perverter of Truth that aren't necessarily the same sort of effect as the main staples but stack wonderfully none the less.

There is almost as much forced discard in this deck as there is forced draw leading to, obviously, a need to abuse opponents for doing so. The obvious main hopes are to land Liliana's Caress and/or Megrim as they hit like trucks with only one wheel. There are also cards which can be used for beneficial gain causing opponents pain just through the realization that they're falling behind on board. Sangromancer and Waste Not are absolutely fantastic for not only getting ahead but helping to recover from a vulnerable position.

One of my favorite aspects of this deck is while it wants the opponent to draw so they have more to discard it also wants them to keep a sustained 7+ card hand to help dish out even more torment. It's hard not to love a card like Price of Knowledge which is the perfect set up for filling your opponents' hands. Stormbreath Dragon and Fevered Visions serve as other great examples of why it's best to keep tempting your opponents to fill up their own hands. Draw, discard and hand damage seem minuscule on their own but when put together they're the difference between a solitary mosquito and a swarm.

This exists to change the deck into a more 1v1 style of play. All of the cards listed there target a singular opponent for more concentrated burn.
