UPDATE 12/18/17:

I'm trying out a slight change with 2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Ojutai's Command. They might turn into Cryptic Command, but I wanted to try it out. The two Gideons add pressure and work well with Thing in the Ice  's flip effect.

Despite it not being mainstream, I've had really good success with this deck. I think the Jeskai Control shell vs. Izzet Spells shell helps games be more consistent and I'm not as worried if I don't draw Thing in the Ice   because my other spells can interact vs. do nothing (i.e. Mutagenic Growth, Manamorphose, etc.).


UPDATE 08/10/17:

After going back and forth, I decided to sell a bunch of cards so I could buy 3 Snapcaster Mage. I also added a few fast lands and changed the spell base a little so I have more card draw and cantrips. I am wondering if Ancestral Vision is worth it instead of Sleight of Hand and if I should drop a Thing in the Ice   for a fourth Snapcaster Mage. I think it's better how I have it now.


UPDATE 07/14/17:

My first FNM experience was great, but I felt like something needed to change. I won games, but I want to increase the speed of the deck without decreasing the effectiveness or losing the controlling aspect of the deck. I think the main variables are the Spell Quellers. I think removing them and adding more pressure is the better approach so I toyed around with Monastery Mentor and Young Pyromancer. Both cards are a bit of a "non-bo" with Thing in the Ice   so it didn't feel right to have a full playset. If I was only going to play 2-3, Young Pyromancer felt too weak. 3 mana cost is a lot for a card that requires work, but I think it's the better choice.

I removed the Spell Quellers, added 2x Mentors, added a couple more counterspells, and then modified my spell base a slightly. I've played a few games with friends and this feels better than the deck I took to FNM. In my games, I never wished I had a Spell Queller when I drew a Mentor. In fact, Mentor won me a game. The downside to Mentor is that all the tokens come back to my hand when I flip Thing in the Ice, but it didn't happen very often. In fact, if I'm flipping Thing in the Ice, there's a good chance I'm going to win. 2 copies of Mentor felt right.

Any thoughts?


UPDATE 06/23/17:

Just played at my first FNM and went 3-1!

0-2: Elves
2-1: Devoted Druid combo
2-0: UB Faeries
2-0: Burn

Against Elves: I got crushed. He went wide so fast and had about 8 elves by turn 4-5 both games. Even with a board wipe, he was able to regenerate most of his elves.

Against Devoted Druid Combo: He combo'd off early on the first game and I wasn't familiar enough with this deck to respond appropriately. For the next two games, I was able to break up his combo. Anger of the Gods and Sphinx's Revelation were clutch in one of the games.

Against UB Faeries: This deck played like a control deck so it gave me time to build my hand more. For one of the games, I won by a lot of burn spells. For the second game, I won with little bits of damage here and there from Thing in the Ice  , Myth Realized, and Wandering Fumarole.

Against Burn: This deck was pretty fast. I had enough creature removal and life gaining spells to slow him down until he was top-decking.


This is my home brew deck that has evolved over time and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts/suggestions for improvement. Myth Realized was one of my first cards that I owned and it is still one of my favorite cards ever! It's nothing earth shattering, but I feel somewhat attached to the card. Since it's harder to kill an enchantment, I've won a lot of games with it. This deck started out as U/W Control, but I recently added red which I think makes it better.

Anyway, I've made this deck to want to play Myth Realized and/or Thing in the Ice   ASAP. Thing in the Ice has been a killer addition. If it is in my opening hand, I usually flip it on turn 4 with some Lightning Bolts to accompany it. The deck is interesting because it plays like a quasi-control deck with speed. If I don't draw a Myth Realized or Thing in the Ice  , I have enough disruptive spells, creature removal, and cantrips to slow the game until I draw one or draw an Elspeth, Sun's Champion.

I know there are some cards out there that might be improvements so I've listed them in the maybe board. Some of them are pretty expensive so I'd probably only get them over time. But to be honest, my decklist has been pretty strong so far. I actually own and play with the main and side board.
