So onto the Abzan deck!

What I want the deck to be:

So writing this bit for Tuvasa yesterday was actually super good for helping me to identify what I actually want the deck to be doing and therefore what kind of cards should be in/out, so I'll do the same for this one. And when I started thinking about it I realised I didn't really know, as it is kind of like a half aristocrats deck and half token deck. Thinking upon it more, I think I've decided that I don't actually think I need to 'pick a lane' so to speak, and instead can just be an Abzan token deck that's either taking advantage of those tokens in more black ways or more green/white ways. In order to make this deck idea work I think three things need to be true:

  1. I need to have lots of efficient token makers in the deck: My commanders don't make tokens at all, but what they do do is start a really strong draw engine that can pretty easily lead me to drawing 3/4 cards a turn. As such, i need to consistently be finding good token makers every game to be able to turn on the other synergies in my deck. As I'll have some slightly different strategies as well, this also means I need to focus on really efficient ways to get multiple bodies out of my cards, which rules out good token cards like Rhys the Redeemed I think as I just can't afford to ever be spending 3 mana to make a 1/1.

  2. I need to focus on producing small tokens: This goes without saying as it's the norm outside of a populate deck, but I really need to focus on small tokens. Sidar's ability coupled with tymna means I can easily be getting in with my little 1/1s and drawing cards off it, and late game with things like mirror entity or triumph of the hordes.

  3. I need to make sure every effect I include is independently powerful: This is I think the biggest point and also the hardest to do. As I said above I want to be a tokens deck that gets value from tokens however possible, combat or sac'ing, so as a result there will be games where i'm saccing things all the time and games where I'm constantly attacking. That means that I need to make sure all my effects making use of my tokens are just independently powerful rather than relying on another synergy. I'm not expressing this well, so I'll try explain by example. Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat are great staple aristocrat cards, however I think I'll be taking them both out of this deck. They are both cards that stack up loads of damage when you're saccing your tokens for value to other effects, but in my deck they might come out when I'm on a more combat focused game plan. As their effect is just life gain/loss, I don't think that effect is independently important enough to be worth me including. I contrast this to Priest of Forgotten Gods, a card which I won't be taking out as its effect is powerful enough that even if I was being more aggressive in combat, I would be happy to spare 2 tokens for the effect.

General Observations:

This is going to be quite short, the only thing I want to say here is how over the top I've gone with boardwipes in this deck. 7 boardwipes is where you want your control deck to be, not your token deck. I'm genuinely very happy to go down to like 3/4, so some will definitely have to be trimmed. Any thoughts on
