Welcome to Goblin tribal!
This deck was one of the first commander decks that I made and have been tweaking it with every new set that comes out. The best part about this deck is that it is pretty straight forward red aggro. Go wide and attack strategy is very easy to learn so this is the deck I typically teach anyone new to commander to play with.
Get Krenko, Mob Boss on the battlefield (Hopefully with Haste) Activate his ability - Double your Goblins = Go Wide!!!
There is a lot of synergy in this deck to use your tokens as a resource, so sacrifice them in the Goblin way for bonus effects. Remember also that you can attack with your whole Goblin Mob and then sacrifice them to the various enchantments and abilities in response to blockers or even after they do combat damage to finish off creatures or players.
Since going wide and attacking is the primary focus of the deck, we are running Shared Animosity, Coat of Arms, and Ogre Battledriver to pump everything that is attacking. We also run as many of the goblin lords as we can. Goblin Chieftain, Goblin Warchief, and Goblin King help buff the army with the added effects of Mountainwalk (relevant with Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon) and Haste! Haste makes this deck explode! Having those Krenko, Mob Boss doubling activations ready right away turns a small board state into something that can produce lethal very quick. There are many artifacts and abilities that could be added to this deck to make better use of Krenko's tap ability, but I left the power level as close to mid as possible. If your play group plays a bit more competitive, I can recommend some high power options to make you pump out tons of goblins. (i.e. Umbral Mantle, Thousand-Year Elixir, and Thornbite Staff makes infinite Goblins with a sac outlet!)
A few control pieces are in the deck to help if you need to slow the game down or to remove blockers for your attack strategy. Red is great for artifact hate so we have some key artifact removal. Vandalblast, Shattering Spree, Goblin Trashmaster, and to some extent Goblin Welder all help you deal with controlling artifacts. Ruination, Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Ghost Quarter, Tectonic Edge, and Strip Mine all help with control of non-basic lands. We run mostly Mountains so it doesn't effect our board too much, but if it does we are playing red anyways so more mountains isn't a problem. When you need to swing through and your opponent has blockers, make use of Goblin Bombardment, Goblin Sharpshooter, Arms Dealer, Lightning Crafter, and Outrage Shaman. With Warstorm Surge on the field you can also ping away creatures every time you add more goblins to the field.
Card draw is tough in red so we include Skullclamp, Reforge the Soul, and Wheel of Fortune.
Tutors are also tough to come by. Gamble is well a gamble, but it can get you what you need and potentially put it in your graveyard. Moggcatcher is a fantastic tutor that puts your best goblins onto the battlefield! It is not a goblin itself so you can't use any of the goblin tutors to get it but if you manage to get it on the board it's very powerful. Goblin Matron gets you any goblin you need. Goblin Recruiter gets you as many of the goblins you need and stacks the top of your deck with them. Great for mid to late game when you have plenty of mana or a Skirk Prospector to sac your tokens too for mana. This also combos really well with the new Conspicuous Snoop. (I haven't added to the deck yet at the time of writing this.)
Strategies and combos to win include:
Purphoros, God of the Forge or Impact Tremors or Warstorm Surge + Krenko, Mob Boss - Create goblins and burn the table for damage with each creature entering.
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Zealous Conscripts
- Use Kiki-Jiki to copy Zealous Conscripts and target Kiki-Jiki with the ability to untap him. Then repeat as many times as you would like to make 10, 100, infinite attackers.
Goblin War Strike or Last-Ditch Effort can take out a player once your army is big enough.
Vicious Shadows + a sac outlet or swinging with your army. Multiple death triggers clap you opponent for however many cards they have in hand multiple times. Take that blue player!
Also a sneaky big brain play is to use Mogg Infestation on yourself after you attack to wipe your board but then give you double goblins to use as fodder to trigger all the above mentioned win-cons!!!
Hope you enjoy the decktech! Video is coming soon where I will go more in depth with synergies and combos as well as suggest some more budget options that you can use to build this deck a bit cheaper. If you are new to commander and want to build a great deck that can sit at most tables, this is for you. Good luck and have fun!
