I've been trying to come up with a brew that enables
Young Pyromancer
in Rakdos colors. I decided to go with more of a midrange shell, as YP doesn't fit into aggro and I don't think she necessarily fits into a pure control build, either. I think it may be one of the few decks that actually likes
Blightning
as well.
The goal is to use a ton of discard to spot remove your opponent's removal (or combo pieces) while building up a veritable army of tokens between the Pyromancer and
Goblin Rabblemaster
. It may not be quite as powerful as holding up counterspells to counter boardwipes against the Pyro, but I like the proactiveness of discard versus the reactiveness of counterspells. Beyond that, BR has a lot of good spot removal in its colors, so getting rid of singular creatures isn't a big problem for the deck.
Raven's Crime
can be used to get rid of useless land topdecks later on, and for that reason I'm debating running more.
Funeral Charm
being an instant speed discard is quite powerful, and may very well warrant more mainboard slots. Not to mention that with the other modes, against black decks (or if I add in an Urbog)
giving swampwalk to a Rabblemaster can win the game.
Kolaghan's Command
may fit into the mainboard as well, though it may skew the CMC towards the high side unless I replace the Blightnings with the Kommands. This is the first build, so more testing is warranted as far as what is working and what is not. I really want
Asylum Visitor
to work, but if I get the money,
Dark Confidant
will likely replace them as he's not conditional like the Visitor is, and the life loss will generally be minimal with the curve topping out at 3.
Another creature that may go in later is
Pack Rat
, but if I go that route, I may as well just go Rat Moon with the
Blood Moon
BR midrange build.
