The deck uses mostly changelings to take the place of scarecrows. You can use Reaper King to blow up anything you want. He is pretty important to the deck so protecting him is key. There are a few cards in the deck to keep him on the field as long as possible. If you find it hard to keep him on the field, there are a few other ways to win.

You can blow up opponents lands if there isn't anything else worth targeting. This puts an even bigger target on your back though, and Reaper King already generates a lot of hate with how easy it is for him to blow things up. Sometimes it is best to play a little more defensively until you know you can take control of the game.

The manabase isn't anything too special, but it works pretty well. The mana fixing makes it pretty easy to cast anything in the deck. Casting Reaper King is actually a little easier than other five color commanders with his unique hybrid CMC.

  • Cast a kicked Rite of Replication on Reaper King to cause 25 triggers of his ability. You don't get to keep the copies, but they still enter the battlefield.
  • Blade of Selves only works in multiplayer. On any changeling or Reaper King himself for extra triggers.
  • Progenitor Mimic and Followed Footsteps on a changeling gives triggers on each of your upkeeps.
  • Followed Footsteps can be used on Reaper King in a pinch, but it wont provide any extra bodies this way. You can also use these to pick a threat from one of your opponents to copy if you are playing from behind.
  • Padeem, Consul of Innovation gives Reaper King hexproof. Also, since Reaper King's CMC is 10, you almost always get to draw an extra card each turn.
  • Sakashima the Impostor can copy Reaper King while ignoring the Legend rule. Now you can harvest your opponents permanents twice as fast! He's also useful on Silumgar, the Drifting Death, or whatever shiny thing your opponent has.
  • Brago, King Eternal and Deadeye Navigator for flicker shenanigans.
  • The three champion a creature changelings, Changeling Berserker, Changeling Hero, and Changeling Titan, can be used to infinitely destroy permanents. Just take turns championing out one another and having the currently exiled one return only to exile the other one on the battlefield. Rinse and repeat until everything that isn't yours is gone.
  • Artificial Evolution is a quiet all star in this deck. It can be used on any of the token generators in the deck to have them pump out scarecrow tokens. Or you can just change Reaper King to trigger off something else. With Turntimber Ranger, it can be used to make infinite Wolf/Ally tokens. Combine this with Xenograft to make everything a scarecrow, and you can blow up anything and everything you want. If you are playing against another tribal commander, it can even be used on the opponents commander to make it useless with it's own tribe until it gets recast.
  • Venser, the Sojourner because flickering a vindicate is awesome. His second ability can also help end the game. And his ult gives you an exile to go with every spell.
  • Saheeli Rai has great utility. Her plus helps us move through the deck slowly. Her minus can be used for an occasional vindicate. If you can ever get her ultimate off, go ahead and end the game with Nevinyrral's Disk, Mycosynth Lattice, and Darksteel Forge.
  • Sarkhan Unbroken is mostly here for his first ability. The extra card draw is great and it helps with mana fixing a little too. His second ability is nice if you're in need of a blocker. His ult is icing on the cake. Go ahead and get all of your "dragons" and blow up a bunch of stuff. You can also get any of your real dragons while you're at it.

The biggest issue I have with the deck is speed and protecting Reaper King. I've made some recent changes to try and fix these problems, but if you have any suggestions for things that might help let me know.

+ Arcane Adaptation / - Leonin Abunas

  • Arcane adaptation is another card that can make everything a scarecrow. I'm removing the leonin because it's currently the weakest protection for Reaper King. Since it's a creature, it can be removed easily.
