Maybeboard

This was a mono-red enchantments deck. And this description is not up to date!

I have always loved how red enchantments create new conditions on the game or have these global effects, and in the back of my mind have been waiting to build this commander deck for some time. There isn't really an enchantments-matter commander (for now), so I opted for this creature that can act like the sort of static-effect enchantment this deck is full of, and getting a sweet alter of the card kicked me into gear.

It's kind of a group slug deck (I also like decks that kind of set a timer on the game which usually fall into this category), and it doesn't have a lot of creatures, so a decent amount of board-wide damage.

This deck can definitely self-destruct, running out of cards trying to keep Solphim indestrucible, burning its own creatures, and playing too many enchantments (that annoy opponents) and not enough blockers. But it should be fun! Am I a griefer?

Win-cons: Myojin of Roaring Blades, Fanatic of Mogis, Chandra's Ignition, and Earthquake could kill everyone.
Planeswalker's Fury plus the big beaters are more single player removal.

Damage Boosts: Torbran, Jaya, Venerated Inferno, Dictate of the Twin Gods, the flipside of Invasion of Regantha, and of course the commander Solphim. (Would love to play a couple more of these, perhaps City on Fire and Furnace of Rath.)

Combos: hmm....Inferno Titan + Outmaneuver ? Mountain + Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle ? Does this deck do combos?

Game Altering Cards: Share the Spoils, Blood Moon, kind of War's Toll and Mana Web (these two don't affect us!)

Card Advantage/Selection: In red this, is a bit hard to come by, but we do what we can.
- We've got some of the 'impulsive draw' action with Visions of Phyrexia and Urabrask, Heretic Praetor.
- We can rummage with Voldaren Epicure's Blood token, Glint-Horn Buccaneer when it attacks, and pseudo with Into the Fire.
- We can use out opponent's cards with Etali, Stolen Strategy, and Chaos Wand.
- Our sole Monarch card is Emberwilde Captain - We can cycle Godzilla and hopefully a few lands, when I get around to adding them.
- Mindstone can be sacrificed to draw.
- Sunbird's Invocation can get us free spells.
- Spinerock Knoll .. boy, some of these are a stretch.

Defense: Crawlspace, Brash Taunter, Mogg Maniac, Circle of Flame (not in deck yet), and maybe Agitator Ant?

Potential Cuts: Oath of Mages - What if this just gets used against me? Gotta play it and see. Onslaught - Do I play enough creatures for this to work? Yidaro - expensive, doesn't play with Solphim, non-bo with impulse draw Chaos Wand - We don't care about instants and sorceries Uphill Battle - I dno't know, seems expensive next to Urabrask the Hidden

Could cut the weird shit like Share the Spoils and... Stolen Strategy?

Updates Add

  • Etali, Primal Storm -> Chandra, Dressed to Kill
  • Chaos Wand (signed) -> Invasion of Karsus
  • Jaya, Venerated FIremage -> Koth, Fire of Resistance

Sad to see these go, but only Jaya is really on our central game plan, and as this deck becomes leaner it's hard for me to justify keeping around the top-deck stealers. Eventually that'll have to be it's own deck. Jaya is expensive, and only adds one damage, so she goes. In fact, these cuts are lowering the overall mana value of our deck.
Koth is one of the few cards that adds cards to hand, which is important for making our commander indestructible (plus it makes sure we hit our land drops, removes a troublesome creature, and ults into another Valakut).
The battle is a boardwipe that flips into something that pings our opponents. If the board (of one person) gets cleared we can hit it with our (indestructible) commander to immediately flip it.
Chandra is 3mv ramp that pings people, plus card advantage that works great in mono-red.

And just a note: In playing this deck, I've come to decide I don't really want to cast my commander without mana and cards to make it indestructible immediately.
