This deck has become my baby. I might build it IRL since it's so fun to play.
It's basically Aristocrats without the white. It's pretty reliable against the majority of the meta. Even heavy control shells can't hold down creatures that don't stay alive! (I've considered splashing white for Afterlife, but can't find anything worth cutting.)
The plan has three phases:
-
Play low-cost value creatures to hold off the early game, and swing for as much damage as possible. Footlight Fiends are wonderfully useful at ever stage.
-
Sacrifice weenies for any advantage necessary, usually to draw cards or buff a creature. Even better play is stealing a creature to the same ends, (after you attack with it.) Turn 4 Mayhem Devil is nice to this end.
-
Drop Liliana and/or Rekindling Phoenix alongside a sac-outlet: curbstomp with card advantage.
Here are the ideal plays to run away with the game.
Turn 1: Footlight Fiend
Turn 2: Smelt-Ward Ignus OR Reassembling Skeleton
Turn 3: Ravenous Harpy
Turn 4: Mayhem Devil OR Rekindling Phoenix
Turn 5: Act of Treason ---> Costly Plunder
Turn 6: Liliana, Dreadhorde General
Of course, rarely does the perfect match or perfect hand pan out. Here are some workarounds!
Angrath's Rampage is some of the best removal ever. As a turn two play, it takes out any ramp creatures and the ever-terrible Wildgrowth Walker. Turn three is often plagued by a pesky Teferi, Ashiok or Narset, but no more!
Tibalt is honestly amazing 90% of the time. He annihilates Citadel decks, and is a perfect counter to true Aristocrats decks. Those little Devils are just more Fiends to sac later, and lock down the early game.
The sacrifice loop between Reassembling Skeleton and Ravenous Harpy can get a bit silly over time. Later in the game, you can draw cards and buff your flyer at instant speed for three mana whenever you wish.
Spark Harvest is better than Bedevil here. Sacrificing an opponent's creature to kill their other creature, then dealing damage as a trigger is massively satisfying.
