Omnath, Locus of Rage

Commander / EDH

Pommesmitsenf

Omnath, Locus of Rage built as a landfall heavy deck, not focusing too much on the elemental tribal theme.

Card choices: Lands that fetch for more lands are obviously a good choice since they give you lots of landfall triggers. The Panorama lands as well as Myriad Landscape and Blighted Woodland are expecially good because you can use them to make colorless mana and crack them at the rigth time for the landfall trigger(s). Other notable utility lands are High Market which lets you scrifice elementals if you need to bolt something and Terrain Generator which allows you to create elementals at instant speed. I will add the new Command Beacon as soon as I can get one. Omnath can become very expensive with command tax and there are even ways to get it back from your graveyard for multiple uses (e.g. Titania and Restore). Ramp spells are key to the deck's stragy. There is a large variety of cards to choose from. I decided to play some cards that give you landfall triggers at instant spead like Harrow, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Khalni Heart Expedition, Perilous Forays (a card made for this deck), Budoka Gardener and Fertilid (elemental synergy hooray!). Cards that add lands to your hand like Yavimaya Elder, Kodama's Reach or Cultivate are also nice since you play a lot of "play an additional land"-effects (e.g. Exploration, Rites of Flourishing, Oracle of Mul Daya). Burgeoning can really get out of hand, if you are able to bounce your own lands with cards like Scryb Ranger or Storm Cauldron (this card is crazy powerful in this deck). The only artifact ramp we play is Mana Vault and Sol Ring to power out an early Omnath. Our general is important to the strategy, so we run Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves and Nim Deathmantle to prevent him from getting removed. Soul of New Phyrexia is also there to protect your stuff. Mostly your powerful enchantments. We are not to worried to lose creatures since they usually bolt something when they die. Be aware that Omnath's second ability does not trigger when you chose to put him in the command zone. One problem this deck had in its early state was the lack of card draw to make use of all this mana. Therefore we play Harmonze, Wheel of Fortune and Shamanic Revelation for a one time hand refill, Creeping Renaissance, Greenwarden of Murasa and Eternal Witness for recursion, Greater Good and Life's Legacy let us sac some elementals for value and Sylvan Library, Mind's Eye and Elemental Bond give us constant card draw. I also like Outpost Siege as a "red Phyrexian Arena". I chose Khans mode 95% of the time, but Dragons mode can also be usefull in some situations. Where Ancients Tread, Zendikar's Roil and Stalking Vengeance are there to do more of what Omnath already does. I'm not going to lose many words on removal spells and big threats since their function should be obvious. Summoner's Pact is awesome for tutoring for Craterhoof Behemoth to finish the game, Void Winnower is just there because the deck can actually cast it without trouble and it annoys your opponents. A nice thing about Wave of Vitriol is that it gives you quite a lot of landfall triggers, if you have many nonbasics out.
