Been Playing this build for around a year. Have 1 or 2 flex slots in the main board at the moment, using vendilion clique and dismember, but found that they have been useful in my meta. I used this at an SCG qualifier to see how it would perform, and I just missed top 8, beating Burn (second match with a poor burn player), RG tron, U/R Delver, and U/W control and losing to Kiki Chord. Putting my build up for critique, and for people looking for a list who are looking to buy into merfolk.I found that in most of these matchups, the clique was extremely beneficial, and on some occasions dismember proved useful, however was sided out on most occasions. I have not seen any infect in my 2 years playing (mostly casual) so I am not sure how valuable dismember is in mainboard over something like an extra Kira Great-Glass spinner, which I have definitely gotten more value from. Remand in the sideboard is also questionable.
I used to run 4 master of waves, but replaced it with vendilion clique as I seemed to get more value out of it in my local meta. Still debating whether to side the 4th master, or replace dismember(main board) with it entirely.
Sadly because of college I have not been able to play much modern, so this deck is geared more toward what I saw in June when I was playing more, which is why I am looking for some feedback.
I chose not to splash white because it is to easy to lose with. While access to path to exile is very useful, Mono Blue merfolk tends to have a favorable match-up against many decks using blood moon, and loses its leverage against these decks by running things like wanderwine hub, and seachrome coast, and can be punishing if you need to mulligan for colors... The Minamo and Oboro are to avoid boil and choke, however I have only run into those cards on very few occasions. Have not played since dredge became tier 1, so any advice against that match-up would be nice, as It is the only match-up i have a lack of time playing against.
