Updated RG Tron
A quick overview of Tron, ramp into your Tron Lands, play out fun super powerful spells and win with a smile on your face :). I don't need to go in depth to how Tron works as it is an archetype that has been around for a while, I am going to discuss how my updated version with Oath of the Gatewatch differs a little and how/why some of the card choices were made.
New Cards
Kozilek's Return: This is the most obvious insert into GR Tron. It cost one more mana than Pyroclasm, but it allows you to do it at instant speed and it casts again whenever you cast an Eldrazi creature with CMC 7 or greater to deal 5 dmg to the board. This is a huge reason for running World Breaker and it can also be fetched out by Ancient Stirrings. In essence you have access to 8 board wiping effects in your mainboard, which takes a lot of pressure off the sideboard as well.
World Breaker: This card will be taking the place of Wurmcoil Engine in the deck. First because of the excellent interaction with Kozilek's Return, secondly because it is a value card. Even if it is countered it can provide you value and it also contains the ability to return from the graveyard. I also like it because you get a massively strong edge in the mirror match by being able to shut off Tron or answer a Wurmcoil Engine. It also provides more natural resilience to annoying artifacts, enchantments, and lands. When you add in a 5/7 body and the fact you can drop this monster on turn 3 you are in for a good treat.
Kozilek, the Great Distortion: Yes, I cut two Karn Liberated for this beast. There is no worse feeling for a Tron player than pumping through your deck, finding your fatty, casting it, and watching helplessly as it is countered. That feeling becomes a lot better if you draw back up to 7 cards when you cast the card they are countering and maybe even deal 5 dmg to their board. The ability to refill your hand is extremely relevant and the deck being able counter 1,2,3 mana spells with fair regularity is huge for keeping him alive. Kozilek is a 12/12 and has menace so he isn't even an easy chump block and it provides a new line of attack for Tron.
Sea Gate Wreckage: This may eventually be swapped back to the 2nd Ghost Quarter, but I love the utility of the land as it is quite easy to go hellbent in Tron and find the need to start getting card advantage. Wreckage provides a consistent source of card advantage and is a great target for a map.
Sideboard
Some of these cards are pretty straight forward, but just a quick look.
Crumble to Dust - Better card then it gets credit for. Decent against 3 colour decks, Amulet, and Scapeshift, an absolute knockout in the Tron match.
Feed the Clan - Burn can be a bad match up and needs some dedicated sideboard cards, the banning of Twin allows so opened up space probably just need the one.
Ghost Quarter - A simple board in card when you are more worried about dealing with troublesome lands or opponents are running sketchy manabases.
Nature's Claim - Claim is really important, our deck doesn't mind giving opponents life at all to answer pesky artifacts and enchantments. Also an excellent board in against burn and targeting your own artifacts.
Relic of Progenitus - Has to stay in for all those pesky graveyard fueled decks.
Spellskite - I was comfortable moving him to the side and bringing him in against more removal heavy decks where we need to protect our creatures a bit more. With Twin banned we can also cut down are need for skite.
Batterskull - I am probably insane as I prefer Batterskull over wurmcoil engine and Thragtusk. Less mana intensive and is really strong against midrange decks which I feel are coming and you can save and recast.
Overall between main and sideboard this version tries to run a lot of cards that just provide value regardless of the situation. Obviously the most difficult interaction is fast combo decks that we have troubles interacting with, but overall these changes IMO make the deck more resilient and versatile.
Note on Warping Wail - This is a card that I am considering running. It hits a lot of relevant creatures in the format with its removal and gives us some interaction against decks and cards we normally don't have interaction with and at worst can give us an additional mana or even surprise blocker. It would be sideboard and I am going to test, just keeping it in mind.
