This deck takes advantage of black free/low cost madness spells to make Pack Rat's " Discard a card: Create a token that's a copy of Pack Rat" ability a good thing rather than a penalty. The goal of the deck is to get some 1-drops out with deathtouch or discard to slow down the opponent while you get your pack rat engine going. It also plays 4 Swarm of Rats. They're fragile, but with Call to the Netherworld as one of the madness cards and Swarmyard to protect it, it's a lot more durable and they add a nice punch. There are Diabolic Tutors to look for pack rat or to dig for your Marrow-Gnawer. He really seals the deal by giving your rats fear, and the ability to double the power of your Pack Rat/Swarm of Rats every turn with his sac ability is incredible. It usually has enough action the first few plays that you can stabilize and tutor for a Pack Rat so it's not the end of the world if you don't have one in your opening hand. Any hand with a couple of 1-2 drops and 2 lands (preferably 1 Swarmyard) is playable.

I've played a lot with this deck and it's surprisingly competitive! It has a hard time with prison decks and board wipes, so suggestions on how to handle those are strongly encouraged! I'm playing with the 2-drop slot. Rancid Rats is another deathtouch creature which is so nice to discourage attackers, but the unearth on Rotting Rats adds nice resiliency to board wipes and is another discard outlet for madness when needed.

Let me know what you think. It's dirt cheap to build online (< 3 tix for the main board), so go pick it up and have fun!
