MONO DEATH CLOUD
Conception:
I recently faced-off against a friend at my LGS. He piloted something similar to this build while I went Rock (as usual). Though he never won a game, the duration and grind was so intense it left an impression on my innocent soul.
So without further adieu, this is my take on Death Cloud (which happens to be popping up on mtgo of late). Basically, the build's foundation is grounded in the Rock shell, but the goal is Mono . When Modern players think of the BEST Mono deck in the meta the answer is unanimous; 8Rack. Logically, I did my best to bring the two themes together in order to work as cohesively as a well oiled engine; an 8Rack shell that out's like DC. Let's take a closer look:
Wincons:
Death Cloud: The main wincon and the reason for the deck. It doesn't necessarily need to be cast for lethal; most cases players cast in order to cripple the opposition. Sending someone back to the stone age usually should force anyone to concede.
Ensnaring Bridge controls any aggressive opposition directed at us. Our build doesn't boast anything particularly impressive in the realm of creatures, this will help in that regard.
Bloodghast never dies. Becomes increasingly blood thirsty as our opponent becomes closer to death. Great recursion ability and loves Death Cloud.
Vault Skirge
helps me gain some life back, has evasion and doesn't care about Ensnaring Bridge 93% of the time.
Profane Command is our flexible, exciting toolbox pseudo-Death Cloud singleton.
Disruption:
Inquisition of Kozilek targets our opponents 3cmc base which usually consist of: enablers, ramp, combo pieces, etc.
*Blackmail may be a substitute that I really want to run. Much play testing will ensue.
Liliana of the Veil; Hey girl...
Smallpox is Death Cloud jr.
Removal:
Damnation is our precautionary spell that wipes when we are overwhelmed by aggro, hated on, or just can't stick our rhythm.
Slaughter Pact preys on oblivious or naive players. I enjoy casting it against Splinter Twin.
