Deck History

Sultai is my favorite color combination, and I wanted to build a control deck in Commander/EDH. The only generals that really appealed to me as control generals were Damia, Sage of Stone and Tasigur, the Golden Fang . I played around a little with Damia, but she didn't lead to any specific game plan besides all-out combo-control, which isn't very fun to play with or build. Besides the fun factor, it isn't very fun to play AGAINST, either. So, I ditched Damia for Tasigur! He was quite fun to build around and after some testing on untap, I found he was great to play with and against. I have tested many decks in this format, choosing which one to build on paper. This is the only deck I found that I enjoy playing where I could find a balance between fun and effectiveness.

The Commander

Cost:
A CMC of 6 is actually a moderately average cost for a competitive commander, and Tas just gets cheaper the more your graveyard fills up, thanks to his Delve ability.

Ability 1: Delve (Each card you exile from your graveyard while casting this spell pays for .)
This makes Tasigur dying not a huge deal for us because we can just exile some cards from our graveyard to pay for the extra. Although we'll usually be fine with just paying for his full cost of , his delve ability can be useful for paying for him in a pinch.

Ability 2: : Put the top two cards of your library into your graveyard, then return a nonland card of an opponent's choice from your graveyard to your hand.
This allows for insane amounts of recursion, and can be made cheaper with Training Grounds. We can use Tasigur's delve ability to exile things we don't care about, making it harder for opponents to give us irrelevant cards back. If we somehow mill ourselves too much, we have a panic button in Elixir of Immortality.

Power / Toughness: 4 / 5
This isn't too big, but it allows for Tasigur to survive many burn spells, and can survive a small-to-mediocre sized Toxic Deluge.
