With the departure of some of my favorite Simic Cards (Prime Speaker Zegana, Master Biomancer, Progenitor Mimic, etc...) from standard, I started to wonder where exactly Simic lay in the new and upcoming block. Has it become a dead color combination? Even mono-green''s influence in simic is about to be dramatically influenced with the loss of shock lands, Garruk, Caller of Beasts. Most of mono-blue's strong suits like Cloudfin Raptor and Tidebinder Mage are being removed from the game of standard as well.
So, where do I begin to make a new Simic Deck? Well, I should look no further than the new planeswalkers that came out in M15! Nissa, Worldwaker and Jace, the Living Guildpact have become the new pilots of simic along with Kiora, the Crashing Wave to produce a contraption that will shuffle through your cards like the crashing waves of a beach. With every win condition that is green or blue of which include the likes of Polukranos, World Eater, Master of Waves, Thassa, God of the Sea, and even the sleeper instant, Hour of Need, there's nothing this deck cannot do!
Here are some combos you may run into while piloting this engine.
Polukranos, World Eater
+
Thassa, God of the Sea
This disgusting little trick does the ticket in almost any hapless situation. Swinging with an unblockable eater of worlds is about the most simic thing you can do.
Master of Waves
+
Nissa, Worldwaker
Are 4/4's with trample just not doing it for you? Well, here's a way to boost all those elemental tokens to epic proportions! Did I mention turn 3 master of waves makes rabble red shit its pants?
Jace, the Living Guildpact
+
Kiora, the Crashing Wave
Isn't it obvious? Look at the top two cards, and draw which ever one you want with Kiora, the Crashing Wave. A revealed land with Courser of Kruphix only makes this combo all the sweeter. Did I mention these two are the core of the control aspect that this deck introduces? One can either bounce an essential threat at any moment with Jace, the Living Guildpact's minus three, or create a stone brick wall out of one of your opponent's creatures with Kiora, the Crashing Wave. The fact that Jace, the Living Guildpact pluses to six on turn 3 in this thing can be devastating if your opponent doesn't have any response! And his ultimate wins the game... period.
There are many other combos to try out and discover in this thing, but why don't you do that for yourself? Have yourself a couple playtests and I promise you'll discover what simic can really accomplish.
