Grothama Mama - Grothama, All-Devouring (EDH)

Commander / EDH Mono-Green

Barito

Maybeboard

Y'all out here looking for your own shuga mama, baby mama, maybe a lil mama, but have you ever considered a Grothama mama? (P.S. you need not choose a Grothama mama, it could be a Grothama papa, a Grothama pangenderama, or whatever kind of identification floats with you). Grothama, All-Devouring will treat you right - she will let you draw, she will let you attack, but most importantly, she is a giant wurm that will likely kill you should you not befriend her. Have her join your list of most loved commanders today :)

As you read through this deck please leave any feedback on things you feel could help improve the deck. This deck is in early development and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

The goal of this deck is to ramp up to Grothama, All-Devouring (and many of the other high CMC creatures) to ultimately draw into some sort of combination of cards that can win you the game. For example, Stuffy Doll can allow you to deal 10 damage to target opponent each combat (or more if Grothama is boosted). Broodhatch Nantuko and Druid's Call both let you create an overwhelming number of creature tokens to swing at your opponents (very easy win-con with Pathbreaker Ibex, Overwhelming Stampede, Dragon Throne of Tarkir, or Vigor), Psychosis Crawler can very quickly take out every opponent as you draw many cards each turn, or you can deplete your massive amounts of mana into Rocket Launcher for a more unique win.

Grothama has draw inherent in her text so of course we want to have additional draw mechanics that we can play off of.

A list of all the 'draw' cards includes (9 total): Life's Legacy, Rishkar's Expertise, Momentous Fall, Grothama, All-Devouring, Greater Good, Predatory Urge, The Great Henge, Return of the Wildspeaker

Grothama certainly has an interesting ability - she can easily grant you a whole bunch of draw or attacking power, but additionally she can also end up letting your opponents have a bunch of card advantage instead. To avoid the latter, it is crucial to have ways to prevent your opponents from easily getting the benefits of Grothama. Cards that aid in protecting Grothama are (10 total): Spearbreaker Behemoth, Stonehoof Chieftain, Vigor, Darksteel Plate, Hammer of Nazahn, Magebane Armor, Swiftfoot Boots, Asceticism, Heroic Intervention, Temur Sabertooth.

Grothama is useless if we cannot get him to leave the battlefield. A list of bounce/sacrifice effects that can do exactly this include (8 total): Temur Sabertooth, Erratic Portal, Mirage Mirror, Life's Legacy, Momentous Fall, Greater Good, Predatory Urge, Sanctum of Eternity

NOTE: we also have several creatures capable of killing off Grothama as well.

Mossbridge Troll: This guy can easily get out of hand. Use his ability once to get at least a 25/25 but often it can be repeatable to get him to be a 45/45 or even a 65/65. Use card draw like Momentous Fall, Greater Good, Life's Legacy to draw at least a fourth of your entire library or have some sort of trample enabler like Nylea, God of the Hunt or Loxodon Warhammer to win the game.

Temur Sabertooth: One of the best ways to abuse Grothama. Throw all your mans at him and then return Grothama to your hand at the end of turn to get all the card draw you want (Note that you can draw more than 8 cards from Grothama. If Grothama has indestructible for example you can swing with other high power creatures like Ghalta, Primal Hunger for much more card draw).

Stuffy Doll: It's just fun.

Vigor: This card can make things get so out of hand it is hilarious. The first creature to fight Grothama gets 10 +1/+1 counters. Then Grothama gets the first creatures power added to it in +1/+1 counters. The second creature to fight Grothama gets the first creatures power and 10 +1/+1 counters. Then Grothama gets the second creatures power added to it in +1/+1 counters. The third creature gets the first creatures power and the second creatures power and 10 +1/+1 counters. Grothama gets...

Rocket Launcher: the worse version of Goblin Cannon but with a better name. Just a fun way to win if you have a lot of mana available.

Sasaya, Orochi Ascendant  : often we are able to draw into 20+ cards when we do get to draw. Thus, often we have a bunch of lands in our hand to make Sasaya flip and get exponential ramp :)

Dragon Throne of Tarkir: all my creatures become at least boosted by +10/+10 and have trample... Pretty fun.

Traverse the Outlands: nuts

Predatory Urge: Grothama fights... Grothama? Outcome: 20+ cards are drawn. Otherwise, good creature removal in a high power deck.

Golden Guardian  : This card is great with Stuffy Doll or Vigor. If neither of them are out, it is also great to use at instant speed to at least draw 4 cards if Grothama gets removed by a boardwipe or targeted removal.

Eureka: We draw 20+ cards, play this, and cheat them all in.
