Commander: Uril, the Miststalker

What do we do with Uril, the Miststalker. Well everyone knows him as an incredibly irritating voltron commander that losses you friends and is best suited for 1v1 where you can be a bit more competitive.

I didn't know this when I chose him as my third EDH deck to build. I just wanted somewhere I could run the Hidden Spider and Ancestral Mask I had gotten from a boot-sale and made up my original collection.

However I soon discovered a distinctive problem, I like fun and interesting EDH games that don't end turn six. However the only way I could make a decent Uril deck was to do this, and by refusing I created one of the most boring and useless EDH decks i've ever made. Strangely my friends however really enjoyed boring it, despite loosing all the time they still noted how cool it was just commenting that it needed more creatures. gravpact and Savra, Queen of the Golgari being very heavy in our meta at the time.

So Uril sat and did nothing for a year while I made more fun decks.

Then Theros was released.

Suddenly I could build a deck full of both creatures and Aura spells, simply begging to to be created.

Now I have a very fun and powerful; deck that I don't feel ashamed to either win with myself nor lend to another player. Its not broken but it still wins games.

Normally I will never even have to play Uril, the Miststalker until my hand is empty.

I wont go over the cards that everyone uses just some more unusual choices of my own.

Hidden Ancients et al- these three cards were the reason I made the deck and will never be cut even for better cards. Despite this it is very funny to play a turn one Hidden Guerrillas and then turn two attack the fool who played a soul ring

Seal of Cleansing & Seal of Primordium- Yes instant speed is always better but with a deck full of eidolon of Blossoms]] etc you want as many triggers as you can.

Font of Fertility- Combined with the enchant land ramp this creates and almost entirly enchantment based ramp suit, somtimes I wait untill I cast and enchantress before I even start playing most of my ramp, the extra card draw is always worth it.

Ordeal of Nylea- this replaced a Rampant Growth from the deck, not an obvious card for edh but it makes a much better top deck late in the game when you slap it down on Uril. It can also make some very interesting turns 3-5 with Kor Spirit Dancer.

Malignus- As I mentioned before you should'yt always need to cast Uril in this deck, nor should it matter atall if he gets tucked. As such there are lots of cards like this that can act as a whole new voltron, trun 4 Malignus turn 5 Battle Mastery or Pollenbright Wings can make for interesting games.

Celestial Ancient- This was cut from my original mistalker deck, which like most people discover suffers from a distinct lack of other creatures. In this deck it can be truly terrifying if ignored.

Real Razer- cards like Armageddon are very popular in voltron decks but I'm really not a big fan of land destruction. I will however admit it is a very good way to win the game. Hence my compromise. If you can kill him before your all dead, you get it all back and kill me. It doesn't get played often and unlike the aforementioned card it wont loses you friends.

Divine Reckoning & Phyrexian Rebirth- One leaves you with your voltron and little else, the other gives you a new one. Sweet either way.

Palisade Giant- Very important for keeping this deck alive, a very overlooked card.

Aggravated Assault- Its a win condition but its an Enchantment, I often find that you can kill off one player but then you have to deal with the swing back the following turn and probably die, this way you can normally take two or three of them down on the way.

Mystic Barrier- We have already established that Uril, the Miststalker is very good at 1v1 edh. Why not turn your multilayer into a 1v1 format? If your doing well you might have three or four people on the board all swinging at you, this way you can work your way around the table and only have to cover your arss in one direction.

Feel free to use ideas, the more players that think of Uril as a fun deck the less hate Ill get when I reveal my commander.

Thank you
