Both explain a lot of the necessary upgrades better than I can, so check out both articles for a deeper understanding into my upgrade choices.
Well, I've finally finished upgrading the Modern Event Deck as I wanted it to be! Obviously this isn't the best deck in the format, but I feel it should be able to hold its own against the large variety of decks out there. I went with Stein's suggested 4x Thoughtseize since Tier 1 decks are so common in my meta, and most don't do well with constant hand disruption. I also went with his suggested 5-6 spot removal spells - 3x Path to Exile in the mainboard, and 1 in the sideboard along with Dismember. I might need some board wipe to take care of creature-heavy and hexproof decks, though (occasionally seen in my meta). I saw De Blois' land base as more versatile, as I've yet to see Blood Moon played against me (although I've seen several decks here running it). Bitterblossom is just awesome token generation (especially paired with Auriok Champion, which effectively negates 'blossom damage, except when I'm at 1 health left), but I'm only running it as a 3-of to make room for upgrade suggestions from both articles (mostly the playset of Thoughtseize). Offensive capabilities of the deck are slightly lacking on occasion (even with all of the token generation spells), so I've been thinking of adding either Hero of Bladehold or Brimaz, King of Oreskos to supplement both the deck's offensive prowess (no relation to the Magic ability) and token generation. Sorin, Solemn Visitor is my own design choice - I personally prioritize his pump and lifelink ability, and he can generate tokens if really needed. That should cover pretty much all of the design choices in the mainboard.
Onto the sideboard - this is pretty much a combination of Stein's sideboard and a few of my own ideas (De Blois completely neglects to mention sideboard upgrades in his article). I have the 1x Path in there, along with 2x Dismember, in case I need more spot removal (creature combos, especially). The 3x Suppression Field effectively serves to shut out combos involving Splinter Twin or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker; I've honestly thought about replacing these with 3x Ghostly Prison, serving the same role but offering more versatility (especially against a lot of the creature-heavy decks in the format). Stony Silence effectively shuts down affinity's shenanigans. Rest in Peace serves as a mostly better version of Relic of Progenitus, as its ability is constantly active (I often forget to active Relic's ability when I use it). Finally, Leyline of Sanctity is the ultimate protection card against the Burn/ Scapeshift matchup (along with any other player-targeting effects).
