You know I have to at least try with
Simic Ascendancy
. The best I got is
Evolution Sage
+
Scapeshift
. In order to make it a deck that at least somewhat relies on Ascendancy, I'm going with a grindy control-combo route, since any deck that can actually make 20 +1/+1 counters on creatures probably doesn't need Ascendancy to win. Decided to go with Black as the third color mostly because I needed an excuse to play
Soul Diviner
but Black has half-decent disruption too, kinda. Quick rundown of the card selection:
CREATURES
< 2 >
Soul Diviner
: Defensive creature that can feed on the counter-generators for card advantage, digging out the boring disruption that keeps us alive as well as the much more exciting combo pieces. It teams nicely with Ascendancy for a repeatable 3-mana draw option while holding up mana for disruption.
< 3 >
Evolution Sage
: Mostly there to combo with Scapeshift, but if you stack a couple of them along with a Krasis or two, it could get there. If you get it early game its body isn't bad & will trade with most creatures.
< X >
Hydroid Krasis
: Probably wouldn't even be playable except as an enabler for Ascendancy. Terrible, terrible card.
Voracious Hydra
: Removal spell on a stick, or turbo-boost to get to 20.
NONCREATURES
< 0 >
Blast Zone
: Another way to feed the Diviner consistently, especially if you need to remove that pesky starting counter in order to destroy mass tokens. If you decide to keep its counters around, the Sage can level it up to deal with bigger threats without having to invest mana.
Karn's Bastion
: Instant-speed Proliferate mana sink that can add up counters on Ascendancy in a hurry with a couple creatures that have counters.
< 2 >
Simic Ascendancy
: The kind of card that defines an era of men.
Assassin's Trophy
: Boring removal that keeps us alive.
Thought Erasure
: Boring hand disruption that keeps us alive.
< 3 >
Sinister Sabotage
: Boring countersp.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
< 4 >
Vraska's Contempt
: ..............zzzzzzzzzz
Scapeshift
Finally, an exciting instant/sorcery. It's so action-packed that it will literally sit in your hand until you're ready to win.
