With the unbanning of Jace a few weeks back, Modern has been cracked wide open for brewing. Some hate this unbanning, but I see it as an opportunity to stretch my arms and give my hand a go at this new meta. So, where does Jace fit best? Talking to my local meta, Jace needs protection from threats in the early game and then some defense when he hits the field. I personally love the blue/red combination but felt like adding a third color, black, could really strengthen the chances of Jace staying alive, and has some added synergies with cards like Dark Confidant.

I looked at a couple of options for deck builds. The first is the obvious control, and I honestly hate control. I playing it and I hate playing against it at times. The second was to look at a midrange shell. I like this option more because it allows for more flexibility, and the deck wouldn't need to depend on Jace to win most games. With this in mind a couple of midrange decks across the meta were looked at for ideas, mainly decks such as Jund, Mardu Pyromancer and Grixis Pyromancer.
