"I came seeking a challenge. All I found was you."
Zurgo, khan of the Mardu
Given the fact that I love to play chess, it is pretty obvious that I am attracted to b/w. Since in the new meta everyone will play u/w control (or jeskai/esper) I'd like to get something else and came up with this one. It still needs a lot of testing, but it can be devistating. After sideboarding I feel like this is actually strong against any aggro/weenie decks like warriors or red deck wins. It might have some issues against control since it has no counter spells, but I guess that Thoughtseize, Duress and Despise, the massive amount of treats (8 planeswalkers and 3 deadly Sieges) and the ability to remove all of the opponents threads won't leave us chanceless in that matchup either. Against midrange decks we shall be fine.
I am thankfull for any advise. Either cards that need to be played that I missed, or cards that I just overestimate and should be taken from the deck are good to know.
Here's my brakedown of the Ideas behind the threads.
As in any game of Chess there need to be some pieces on the board.
The King: Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
Undoubtfully Ugin is the Monarch on the board. Exciling everything that is in his way. Finishing of the Opponent step by step and his ultimate wins almost every game. Note: If he doesn't get hit in the process he survives his ultimate.
The Queen: Elspeth, Sun's Champion
She is the most efficiant way to finish off opponents and deserves to be the most dangerous piece on the chessboard.
The Bishop:
Sorin, Solemn Visitor
He provides some threads that look like vampiers and can easily mate in combination with the queen Elspeth, Sun's Champion. 1/1 tokens and +1/0 with lifelink deal ton's of damage and give as much life back, that we can use to cast a sick
Damnable Pact
.
The knight: Liliana Vess
Is a nice peace to set up mating traps via her tutor abillity. Also she can be anoying with her +1 and in rare cases she can mate the opposing king with her ultimate.
The Rook: Erebos, God of the Dead
Rooks are known for taking away any squares from the opposing king, that he needs to escape, and increasing the pressure on him. Not letting your opponent gain any life back might put him in a corner and drawing extra cards might be the pressure we need. In combination with Palace Siege we can draw an additional card each turn fur 2 mana.
The chessclock: Palace Siege
By the time the "Dragons" ability hit's the battlefield, we set our opponent on a clock and buy some time for us. Also we can once again draw a lot of cards with
Damnable Pact
.
The rest of the deck is pretty much a control package, that includes tons of removal, exile and carddraw.
Thx for any comments and recommendations.
