Working on my deck for GP Providence. Aiming for a UR strategy for a quick burn to the dome win.

Just got back from Tuesday night standard. Wound up going 1-2, with the bye in rd 3.

round 1 - RW aggro

opponent curved nerd ape into servo exhibition into thraben inspector with goblin bushwhacker both games. Game 1 I had 3 spells in my opening hand and never drew another. game 2 i mulliganed to 5, kept a 1 land hand and never drew a land. so that was a thing.

round 2 - grixis control

Seemed very similar to Shota's PT deck though I didn't see a full decklist. Game 1 was dueling Things in the Ice. Opponent flipped his in response to my lightning axe, but then had it reset due to unsubstantiate, which flipped mine. Tempo edge gave me the win.

Game 2 I landed an early Fevered visions which wound up doing a lot of work, but my opponent was able to get me down to 5 with Thing, and I died to two Fumaroles staring at a hand full of negates and my opponent at 2.

Game 3 I never got a fevered visions. Opponent semi-misplayed, thinking he had the lethal attack when he flipped his thing in the ice to attack with it and his two Torrential Gearhulks, not realizing the gearhulk, while scary, is not a horror. I was able to buy time with an unsubstantiate and windfall the gearhulks away with Collective Defiance, but without a steady source of damage, I kept being behind and could only get him to 10.

So a disappointing evening. Round 1 was mainly losing to RNG, and I think I could probably have eked out a win in game 2 of round 2 if I'd played a little tighter. With so much of the deck being cheap control spells (lightning axe, galvanic bombardment, unsubstantiate) I wonder if I'm lacking a critical mass of burn to reliably kill the opponent. May need an additional source of damage or card draw to make the deck more consistent. I wonder if Flame Lash is good. I'd be even more inclined toward it if I could go more instant heavy with Torrential Gearhulks, but I think it's up to $40 now. Seems to be following the same arc as Avacyn after PT SoI.
