Something's going on in the backyard...

This is a tribute to Tuned Deathfed, an Innistrad event deck I tuned back in the day and with which I had tons of fun. Now, I replaced quite a few cards to meet Modern standards (kind-of), so in general we're playing better Magic cards. However, since this is a casual deck not meant to compete in tournaments, I prioritised fun over competitiveness. Please note that I only listed basic lands, but you can assemble the manabase according to your budget!

The deck can be a bit slow sometimes but its kinda suicide style is bonkers once the engine is on. That being said, our plan is to spend the first turns fending off opponent's creatures while we fill our graveyard as much as possible, and then beating down taking advantage of the graveyard synergies.

Creatures

  • Early enablers: For that purpose we run expendable creatures like Stitcher's Supplier, Satyr Wayfinder and Wall of Lost Thoughts. These are meant to fill our yard and then chumpblocking early threats, better if they die in the process :) Another good option is Hedron Crab, but since it's less expendable, I prefer the others.

  • The beaters (mid-game): Our faster pay-offs:

  • The finishers: 4 slots meant to finish our opponent once and for all. I chose these:

    • Golgari Grave-Troll: Finisher and enabler at the same time, definitely a pain in the ass for the opponent. It's banned in Modern for a reason...
    • Kessig Cagebreakers: if going over the top doesn't work, these guys allow you to go wide, and boy can they do it (note that tokens aren't exiled after attacking!). A really good option to get through blockers.
    • Ghoultree: The tough guy. It's always nice to land a 10/10 for . If the opponent doesn't have the appropiate removal it's a huge problem for them, literally.
  • Final bosses, feat. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord & Sidisi, Brood Tyrant. Acting as the lords of the deck, both golgari and sultai CEOs emphasize our deck's synergies, add value, and most importantly, they add some spicy flavor. Jarad offers an oops I win button and Sidisi can grind and provide value like no other. The drawback here is that, depending on your manabase, they can be a bit difficult to cast.

Supply

Since we're playing more like a midrange deck, some disruption is needed, but it's also important to keep in mind that running too many non-creature cards can dilute our plan.

Other

options I haven't mentioned above are:

Anyway, there must be a lot of cards that I haven't noticed, so any suggestion is welcome!. Thanks for reading!
