Why Esper Gifts?

tron is a huge chunk of the meta. so our matchup with tron is pivotal to our success in the metagame. Control struggles with tron because it has a problem turning the corner - we do not. We hit the corner hard, with the ability to produce a Griselbrand on their endstep. compared to normal esper control, i'd say our matchup against the "big 4" (humans, phoenix, tron and contol), our humans MU is worse, phoenix is better, tron is better and control is worse. but beyond that, the real reason I'm playing this deck, jank and all, is because i like it and i have more fun playing big, dumb threats than playing pure control and at the end of the day that's why i play magic: to have fun.

before we begin, let me say this: lili is a house. the value of a 2/2 every turn on an uptick makes her great, though if you hit one of our creatures with mill the downtick becomes fantastic. compared to teferi, they're very different "threats." teferi is much more of a control card, with card advantage on his uptick and removal on the downtick, where as lili is a true threat, creating a new threat every turn on her uptick or resurrecting another threat on her downtick. So, he is stronger in matchups where we need answers and she is stronger when we want threats, like in a control matchup where a resolved lili can generally end the game with her army of tokens

Sphinx of the Final Word

HEXPROOF get us through tron and through control, both of which are a huge chunk of the meta.

Riverwinders??

Riverwinders are cantripping reanimation targets with hexproof in a reanimator control deck - why SHOULDN'T I run them??

Mission Briefing

the mission briefing is different - with gifts i get 4 cards with different names. so if im playing a "value gifts" to just draw cards, i couldnt give myself two snapcasters and a cryptic. i can, however, do mbriefing, snap and cryptic. that is why the mission briefing is in the deck.
