Maybeboard

This deck is intended for a star format. http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/sf6

This is a traditional star format game so my opponents will always be a green and white and my allies will always be red and blue. We are limiting color hosers to "within reason" which seems to indicate that anything that tinkers with lands or prevents a color from out right playing is not going to work.

I'm going with Chainer for the commander. I'll hope to leverage all the graveyards from some great enter the battlefield shenanigans.

I gave it a trial run at a recent commander game. It was not a star format, but it still performed very well.

A few items of note:

My life total plummeted pretty quickly.

Partially this was self inflicted, partially another deck at the table considered me a threat and hit me early. A few more life gain sources would be ideal. Mana was slow to start off with but my card advantage/ramp removed that obstacle pretty quickly.

Eternity Vessel did not show up until I was in my teens. Still, it did some heavy lifting when it came in. I may replace this with Trading Post. The post provides life gain, a discard engine and a sac engine.

Palace Siege is going in. If my commander becomes too costly or is debilitated it can act as a poor stand in. Or it can help me recover some much needed life if Chainer is still in action.

Caged Sun was surprisingly lackluster. I'm finding that the life component of Chainer's ability is more of a hindrance than the mana cost. I'm swapping that out for Conjurer's Closet. The closet should let me reuse some of these ETB effects. It can also remove the nightmare creature type on creatures I want to save from exile.

I may look for another sac outlet for the deck as well.

Ground Seal was difficult to deal with. Disk and Karn remain my only options there. I'm considering Ugin, the Spirit Dragon to help with that.

Discarded and/or killed creatures of my opponents are definitely worth taking advantage of. I'm considering Life's Finale to stock their graveyard with goodies. But, I'm not sold on the mana cost for it.
