Maybeboard

I have absolutely no idea how to document a deck, but I'd like to think I'm making a valiant effort. I'm a very new player, and this is the first deck I've put serious thought into building. I'm reasonably new to the area that I will be playing in and know very little about their meta, but I do know there's Selvala, Marchesa and Wydwen.

I've decided that my budget is the money that I would have spent on YCS Prague, plus the money that I've made from the sales of my judge mats - however, realistically it'll be a little less than that. Probably about £100 pounds sterling (TappedOut doesn't seem to like that particular currency! :o) for everything - and as a new player, I'm pretty opposed to the idea of spending large chunks of that budget on one card... Exception ofc for Consecrated Sphinx because it's just that cool ;)

Another probably pretty odd condition for suggestions is a print with a modern frame - I really don't like the old one. No, Force of Will's modern frame does not count :P

I'm not a blue fan, but Kira's cute. I'm aiming for a sort of.. leave my stuff alone type thing, with Kira, A term I came across is potentially "blue beats". Colossal Whale, Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar, Roil Elemental and Fatespinner are exactly the kind of cards that I'm after. I haven't included Fatespinner or Lighthouse Chronologist because, whilst they fit my ideas, they're not the type of effects I'd be comfortable using - especially before determining the state of my meta.

I'm actually really disappointed at the fact that I don't feel that I can really do anything with the things like Enter the Infinite and Omniscience. They seem like fun cards :(

Things I'm worried about include tokens and Sheoldred :P Two of the games I've played with this deck have been against Sheoldred and one of them wasn't really a game at all, with my opponent stuck on 3 mana, but Sheoldred and her ilk do make me mildly uncomfortable. I don't think I have ANY outs to stuff like Grave Pact, do I?

I'm also wary of my own mana curve - I do have a slight problem in that I don't like the art for most of the mana rocks in the game, though. I'm not really sure how much I need. I've not had mana problems yet, though, but three games is hardly an appropriate sample size.

I'm not really sure how to finish this off - perhaps with something about the Maybeboard? It's just a storage area of things that I've come across that I might like to put in or w/e, I guess that's standard stuff. I also have an Acquireboard where I've put the expensive stuff that I don't really care about either way - like Sower of Temptation and Vedalken Shackles - for later browsing once I've built the deck and feel confident in dumping some more money into it. Rhystic Study's modern frame is on that list, before anybody starts wailing at my lack of it :P

I would IDEALLY have a handful more creatures in this than I currently do - I originally planned it to be a heavy creature version of blue but I seem to have fallen into the trap of "Card draw! Counters! YAY!" at creatures' expense.

Cards I'm not sure about include Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar and Windreader Sphinx. Neither of these have come up in play yet, though, so I'll hold back on removing them until they have :)

I do wish I could run Deadeye Navigator. I think I would require a fair few more ETB effects and thus an overhaul that rather borders on "major" to justify it, however.

I'm REALLY excited for Dragons of Tarkir!

Anyhow, let's call that a day... Thank you =D

A very kind Reddit user sent me some cards for this along with a pile of stuff for my sister after I shared a story about her going 3-1 at her first FNM, so I'm doing a little bit of an overhaul!

After a bit of a toss-up between Myojin of Seeing Winds and Jin-Gitaxias, I've decided to drop Myojin for now so that I can happily run Quicksilver Amulet :) Such a pretty card! I've swapped him out for Spelltwine.

I've also decided to drop Akroma's Memorial. It's a really fun card but I've seen it twice now and both times it was less than helpful. I've also had the existence of Standstill brought to my attention so I really want to try it.

Included in the pile of cards I was sent was a prerelease promo Phyrexian Metamorph, so that's in my obligatory clone slot now - sorry Body Double! :P

I've removed Hinder because it's the one who's art I liked the least from it and Spell Crumple and I felt TERRIBLE resolving it on someone's commander. Having ONE, however, is almost as obligatory as a clone... It's out for Quicksilver Amulet.
