This is a mono black devotion deck that me and a friend have been working on for a few days now.

CREATURES: 26

4 Viscera Seer. Works well with bloodghast as a constant scry effect, Geralf's Messenger to output extra damage, Blood Artist for extra damage as well, and with Vampire Nocturnus because of tribal.

4 Blood Artist. is really good at outputting extra damage and negating a lot of the life lost from the lands, Thoughtseize, and Dark Confidant. Also a Vampire for Nocturnus

4 Geralf's Messaenger is a great devotion boosts for Gray Merchant as well as being a really good way to output damage without swinging.

4 Bloodghast. Good devotion boosts and a great way to output incremental damage early game so Gray Merchants and Vampire Nocturnus can close out the games.

3 Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Game ender. Gray Merchant outputs tons of damage as well as being a great blocker if needed. SO MUCH DAMAGE.

3 Vampire Nocturnus. Great devotion boosts. 25% of your deck is vampires so he demands an answer. Turns early combo pieces like Viscera Seer and Blood Artist into damage late game and turns Bloodghast into a game ender.

4 Dark Confidant. This is the most controversial addition to the list. A lot of people don't like this card beside 4 and 5 drops. In play testing the life you gain from blood artist and gray merchant negates the extra damage from your high drops as well as drains your opponents to end the game. The card draw advantage is extremely important with this kind of grindy deck and because of the curve and how important it is to keep playing cards this can't be substituted for a 3 drop like phyrexian arena.

Instant/Sorcery 8

4 Thoughtseize. Breaks up combos and helps protect your cards. Self Explanatory

2 Tragic Slip. Extremely easy to trigger with this deck as well as only costing 1 cmc. Great kill spell.

2 Geth's Verdict. Drains for incremental damage. Kills creatures, easy to cast.

Planeswalkers 3:

3 Liliana of the Veil. Great against control, combo, and midrange. Great devotion boosts. Fits on curve. Awesome card.

Lands 23:

8 fetches to help thin deck as well as shuffling away the top card to make sure your Vampire Nocturnus is triggered. Also each fetch land has the potential to trigger Bloodghast's Landfall ability more than once.

2 Cavern of Souls. 15/26 creatures are vampires, 7/26 are zombies. This let's all your win cons resolve.

1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Means you don't have to crack fetches to use for mana and makes all opponents lands swamps for the sideboarded funeral charm.
