Sideboard

Maybeboard

Creature (4)

Instant (4)

I've been extremely torn about what cards to place in the deck vs. what to sideboard and maybeboard.

The basis of this deck is to overpower your opponent with swarms of tokens, all while dealing free damage from Purphoros, God of the Forge and Impact Tremor.

The main enemy of this deck is board wiping cards, such as Anger of the Gods, Drown in Sorrow, Doomwake Giant, End Hostilities (to name a few).

Any board wiping cards can lead to a disaster on our end, breaking apart our whole strategy. To combat this, I have chosen Swan Song as the primary counter spell. The reasoning behind this is twofold.

  1. With only 1 blue source of mana available, no one will be expecting a counter spell.

  2. Swan song takes care of instants, sorceries, and enchantments (Doomwake Giant).

There may some room for some Negate if needed, but I am hoping the opponent does not have that many board wipers in a row.

On top of free damage, and creatures that we can bring into play on our oppenent's turn (assuming we don't have to respond to something they cast), we have Raise the Alarm and Secure the Wastes.

I chose Goblin Rabblemaster because he will be spitting out tokens every turn he remains on board, and his power will grow increasingly stronger with every Hordeling Outburst and Dragon Fodder.

I have a feeling Monastery Mentor may be the better choice here, but I went with Goblin Rabblemaster first to try it out.

I'm still torn on whether or not Jeskai Ascendancy is needed for this deck, but pumping and untapping a swarm of tokens during your opponent'r combat would not only save you a ton of damage with a bunch of blockers, but it also opens up the doors for convoke spells.

Because we are using Jeskai Ascendancy with convoke spells, such as Stoke the Flames and possibly Seraph of the Masses and Devouring Light, we can go with only 1 untapped land to either casting a Stoke the Flames or Devouring Light, or both. All we need is to cast a Swan Song (assuming we have a target) or a Secure the Wastes (for emergencies only).

Would love the feedback and to know of anymore relevant cards I may have left out.
