Sideboard

Prior to rotation, I played a sick Simic deck that centered around the Prophet of Kruphix to allow me to get big things out faster, and, with the proper ramp, the deck went off nicely. Of course, it had weaknesses to mono black and blue white control, but with some additions and changes from the new format, perhaps the fast paced aggro might not be over yet...

I do feel that running the Prophet of Kruphix would be a bit of a gimmick in this deck, but it's not something that's too far out of my mind to include later, if tests recommend it.

So, after my first FNM with this deck, I found that running all four Crater's Claws in the main board worked much better than saving two for the side board. Overall, I finished 3-1 in the tournament. The biggest weakness I discovered was with tokens, and, to compensate, I plan to add Anger of the Gods into my sideboard. Xenegos, God of Revels is out for now, due to the fact that I couldn't get any before the tournament, and the deck ran fine without him.

Round 1: Jeskai Tokens

I've never seen this deck before, so I wasn't very sure what I was getting into. Game 1--My opponent was looking to be in a bit of a pickle, but he managed to get out two Jeskai Ascendancy and then he always had a Raise the Alarm or some 1/1 goblin tokens to get in the way of the two Savage Knuckleblade I had on the field. Eventually he was able to pump his tokens and beat me down. This is the game that made me realize I needed Anger of the Gods in my sideboard. Even the soon to be released Ugin, the Spirit Dragon would work here, since one could -X for 0 to remove all the tokens and suffer no losses themselves.

Game 2--Stuck on lands. Not sure if I would have done any better with them, so it's fairly uninformative.

Round 2: Mono-white

This was just a cheap mono white deck some kid threw together just so he could play. I almost felt bad for beating him too quickly to really see his deck, but I guess that's the way it goes. He was probably too young to spend enough money on a better deck, anyway.

Round 3: Mardu Control

Yet another deck I hadn't expected. I really had to think my way through this one.

Game 1--Lost this one. Stoke the Flames, Hero's Downfall, and Elspeth, Sun's Champion all proved to be too much for me.

Game 2--Sideboarded in Dissolve and the two Crater's Claws that I had in side for this tournament. Between the mana leak on Temur Charm, the straight counter from Dissolve, and the fact that he had no counterspells because he wasn't in blue, winning was as easy as saving mana for a counter whenever I could. After breaking apart his threats I was able to stomp through with Stormbreath Dragon and Savage Knuckleblade

Game 3--This one really progressed the same as game 2. A little more thinking than I'm used to with previous decks, but it all came together well.

Round 4: Mardu Aggro

This was more of the Mardu I was expecting to see. Goblin Rabblemaster and Crackling Doom both made appearances, but my opponent got mana screwed the first game and then couldn't draw any steam the second game. A fairly easy win, but not much to say about the match up since his deck didn't want to show up.

tl;dr: The deck did well, but it needs answers for weenie decks. Also, if I see a control deck in different colors, I may be in trouble.
