The goal of this deck is to get out a / creature with a relatively full hand on one turn. That creature will hopefully live to the next turn when we cast Prime Speaker Zegana to double the P/T of the / creature and get a full hand. Then swing to the fences with the big dude and hopefully drop something to let us keep the cards past our discard phase.

The Ophidian creatures help make sure our hand is full for the / creatures. The deck doesn't run much non-creature based card draw. One our hand is full we will have counterspells to protect our big dudes. Unless we have Seedborn we'll be vulnerable the first turn with the full hand. The counters all interact in some way, the mana drains are the best as they help us ramp into the central combo.
