So here's a MBC budget list I'm tooling around with. I'm a fan of Kothophed, Soul Hoarder, and with the millions of fetch lands being cracked recently, and the format being a little bit slower, it seemed like a good time to see if he has a home anywhere. So let's have a look.
Obviously Kothophed, Soul Hoarder is where we'll start. 6\6 flyer for 6 with card draw when permanents hit the graveyard- yes, the life loss is a small downer, but you should be able to manage your life well enough that it won't cost you too often.
Infinite Obliteration Don't like to play against the Rhino? Or Jace? Or Anafenza? No problem. Just remove them from the game. I'll admit, this is a pet card of mine, but with all the processors, you don't need an ingest creature to fuel them. Also gives you access to their library- which is nice, but also gives you a target for the next Obliteration.
Despise
In a creature heavy format this is almost always a hit. Although late game it's a bit so-so, early on it nabs a creature, gives you the info of their hand, and let's you name a creature for your Obliteration so you're not shooting in the dark.
Sludge Crawler
Good early pressure, also ingests so you have the necessary fodder for your processors. Late game can also act as a win condition.
Wasteland Strangler is great removal with an aggressive body. And there's a good chance to have fodder early with the Crawler and the Obliteration.
Read the Bones Scry 2, draw 2- just solid card drawing.
Dark Petition The ability to search for any card in the deck is a powerful tool. And there should be enough instant and sorcery in the yard that you have Spell Mastery. Combine this with the acceleration in the deck and by the time you're casting this you should be able to search and cast any spell you're looking for.
Reave Soul
Having a removal spell for 2 is key, even with restrictions. However, the 3 power or less covers a large majority of the threats. Jace, Mantis Rider, Soulfire Grandmaster etc. You can also combine this with the Wasteland Strangler to kill larger powered threats if necessary.
Foul-Tongue Invocation
no dragons here, but instant speed removal is never a bad thing. In conjunction with the other removal, the instant speed is a good change up.
Hedron Archive- this card is great acceleration, and then great card draw. Allows you to drop Kothophed on turn 5, and that's a big deal. And later in the game its nice to pop for cards.
Ruin Processor
additional win con, however, the 5 life it grants to process more than offsets the life lost to Kothophed or Read the Bones. And if it doesn't, that means you've drawn more than 5 cards off him (or 3 plus 2 from the Bones), so you should be doing pretty well anyway.
Erebos's Titan
I've added the titan as a suggestion, but have yet to test it. However, it does beat Rhino toe to toe, and ideally will be indestructible fairly often (hopefully) with as much removal as this deck runs. Currently no way to force a card from the yard to return him to the hand, but perhaps against a treasure cruising or digging opponent, maybe.
Blighted Fen Instant speed and un-counter-able sac effects? I like it.
Murderous Cut- Petition target- with spell mastery, can be searched out and cast on the same turn. Good catch all.
Languish- Petition target- in case you need the sweeper- also allows the fatties we run to live.
Damnable Pact- Petition target- can be useful to reload your hand, or doing the last few points of damage. Gives the deck a little reach.
