I know the mana isn't quite there and that will be a work in progress. I loved playing these colors pre rotation, I took the summer off from MTG and when I came back I realized I needed to start over. The new set however, was good to my wedge. Even though I am here on Tappedout.net, I am more of a brewer then a net decker, but suggestions and ideas are ALWAYS welcome. I'm still new to the game and I am pretty reckless in my game play, I tap out a lot, I make bone headed decision that come back to haunt me and I rush sometimes even though I don't have too.

So I always run a burn heavy deck to fit my style and personality. Throw in some removal for answers, some big bad threats and ignore math, that is my style. Ugly, but effective. Look, bottom line is I have no intentions of playing pro tours or grand prix. Just like to have fun at the local card shop for FNM So here is my brew.

Butcher of the Horde - This dude gets it done. Flying is relevant with all the current ground presence. Opponent taps out, end phase Mardu Charm sac to Butcher, bringing the beats!

Stormbreath Dragon - Once I scored a playset, this dude has been my star of the show. And now with Sarkhan, this duo is all about killing opponents quickly. The quiet whispers of "oh sht.." when he hits the stable. I lean on this card a lot.

Ashcloud Phoenix - This is a test, its hard to deal with, but if the meta catches up.to him, well, then he's exposed and better options are out there. I will be running the new phoenix in the new block Fates Reforged.

Chandra, Pyromaster - She at first glance might not make sense, that's fine, as long as it makes sense to me. Admittedly she will be bounced in and out of the sideboard, the card advantage is enticing. +0 exile Stormbreath, yes please!

Elspeth, Sun's Champion - She is a staple in any midrange deck running white. She is awkward in many situations for me and I find myself boarding her out. I'm starting to think her home is truly sideboard and come in against control decks.

Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker - This dude is value! He's pretty much a bad ass. I haven't decided if I want to run 2 or just a 1 of. I'm working it out though, keep on playing until I figure it out.

Sorin, Solemn Visitor - This guy is to much good to pass up on. Lifelink for me is key, I really have few options for life gain.

The rest of the deck I covered, if you don't know what Hero's Downfall does and why its in my deck, well, you rival me as a Magic moron, congratulations! Remember its a game and its suppose to be fun!

Last week was modern and I don't play modern. However, my co worker does and he told me my deck was the talk of the night. People talked about how a burned through the competition and went undefeated. AWESOME! With that said I was not prepared for the fact people would ready their decks for me. It was a struggle, every match, every game was a battle. So I now know what it is like to change an environment. It was a good feeling though.

Match 1 - Mardu Midrange

He said at the start of the match he was playing Mardu, but this was no mirror match. I run 4 Stormbreath, he ran 3 Sarhkan. Game 1 he tried to race me, He made damn sure I didn't rely on my Stormbreath, I closed the game with sacrificing a vampire token to a Butcher, attack for 5, lethal with a Lightning Strike. Very intense game, I was a little stressed actually, the is rare for me.

Game 2 he basically did whatever he wanted, I basically couldn't do anything. Interesting note was I boarded out Elspeth to get faster and burn heavy, he boarded in Elspeth to get slower and more controlling, I give my respect to him for knowing what I was up to and planning accordingly.

Game 3 Mardu Charm being an instant makes it so versatile. Magma Jet's with scry two was key and Liliana was big allowing me to top deck a Stormbreath for the match. 2-1 match 1-0 standings.

Match 2 - Sultai (Something)

He had something brewing, just I never really got to see it. Game one had me on the play, Swamp, Thoughtseize, followed by me scratching my head while looking at his hand. I took his Despise. Turn two, Mountain pass, he has no second land, Magma Jet on his end step, scry. Turn three Battlefield Forge, Mardu Charm, look at his hand, take an Ascendancy, pass. His misses land again. I feel bad for him. On turn 4 I play Butcher and ride it home to victory.

Game 2 saw me go Butcher into a Stormbreath, into a victory. Match 2-0 standings 2-0.

Game 3 - Jeskai Tokens

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck! I've seen this deck in action, my first time ever playing against it. Game 1 he had two Ascendancies in hand, Rabblemaster, blah blah blah, I quickly learned one for one removal just cant handle this deck. I have sweepers, but using my whole turn for Utter End or Anger, yuck! I don't have erase because this deck wasn't a thing. Game 1 was the better of the two, but it was ugly. Match 0-2 standings 2-1

Game 4 - Temur (Something)

He was also 2-1 going into this match so he had something going on, but again I never really got to see it. Game one by turn 5-6, I had two Stormbreath and just continued to beat down never really seeing answers.

Game 2 I simply threw burn spells until turn 4 Butcher which was enough. Match 2-0 standings 3-1

Game 5 Jeskai Tokens

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck!!! Game 1 actually went in my favor, Anger of the Gods did its thing, However, turn for Butcher, met a Stoke the Flames, putting us both in a draw go situation for a bit. I know this is bad for me and good for him 9 times out of 10, but I got lucky. Sorin, next Stormbreath, drain and gain, it later met a Stokes, but I found another and that was all I needed.

Game 2 YUCK! This build is beautiful it really is. Fates Reforged is going to give it a lot of help so it is going wildly popular. No game 3, we timed out. Match 1-1 standings 3-1-1

12 players and 3-1-1 was not good enough for top 4. I loved the challenge though, it was a fun night, I did some trading, pulled a Sarhkan with my one pack and had a great time getting to know people at potentially my new location to play FNM!
