Sidisi, Brood Tyrant

Commander / EDH

WizardMN

This deck was built with the idea of building entirely around a specific general. My first few decks were generally "goodstuff" decks so I wanted something more thematic or something where the general plays a bigger role.

My first Sultai colored deck was Damia, Sage of Stone and, as that deck generally ends up being, it was entirely goodstuff and didn't play how I wanted it to. So, after a while, I decided to revisit the color combination as it is the my favorite 3 color combination in the game so I really wanted a deck built in the colors.

I chose Sidisi, Brood Tyrant because she seemed the best to build around. Essentially, she was self mill to flood the board with tokens. Earlier iterations went really deep on the idea of self mill, but over time I found this needed to be done in moderation. The current list shows what I found to the best cards for the theme. Also worth noting is that while the deck is trying to fill the graveyard, there are very few elements on reanimation in the deck. There are some of course, but there are also a bunch of cards that work to shuffle my graveyard back into my library so I don't want to be overly reliant on the graveyard being available.

This does create tension in games where I really want Wonder or Filth to stick around, but attacking with Sidisi means they might get shuffled away. Navigating these scenarios properly requires a fairly intimate knowledge of the deck so it becomes like a little puzzle in the game which I enjoy.

Generally, you will see the card choices below are made to Dredge or get cards into my graveyard from my library as often and consistently as possible. Mesmeric Orb is the best for this since it creates a bunch of individual triggers which gets around Sidisi's "one or more" text since only one card is milled at a time.

Counter magic helps protect my board; things like Cyclonic Rift and Kederekt Leviathan help clean up board states. One of my favorite cards in the deck is Phyrexian Plaguelord. Part of this is based on nostalgia, but he is a beast when it comes to dealing with opponents' creatures (especially those with indestructible).
