There is no doubt angels is one of the weaker tribes in mtg - they usally cost a lot to cast and there's no apparent synergies to them as a tribe. You could say that angels are flawed compared to the fast pace of the modern format as it is, and therefore theres no point in playing a deck mainly based on angels. However, angels such as Baneslayer Angel, Archangel of Tithes and Iona, Shield of Emeria does see some play in constructed, which implies that they are still very valluable creatures. A deck primarily consisting of angels might not be the most competetive deck, but with a proper setup and good plays, the deck can do quite well at a local tournaments, beating top tier decks such as Affinity, Infect and Tron. MY main goal is to build an angel deck suited for competetive play just like Drcfan and therefore I've got a lot of inspiration from his deck: Devotion to White Angels. This description is a thorough walk through of the deck and how to play it properly.

Creatures

Wall of Omens: Card advantage and early block

Knight of the White Orchid: Ramp (circumstantial) and devotion for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. It's also an effective blocker and early game beater, with first strike allowing it to win against a lot of early-game creatures.

Emancipation Angel : 3/3 flyer for . Use it to bounce creatures such as Wall of Omens or Knight of the White Orchid and generate more value.

Archangel of Tithes: Low cost, high value - you get a 3/5 flyer, which also works as a Ghostly Prison, can prevent your opponent from blocking and at adds 3 devotion to Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Additionally, it's not a legendary creature, meaning you can have multiple of these on the battleground at the same time.

Gisela, the Broken Blade: Bruna, the Fading Light + Gisela, the Broken Blade = Brisela, the Voice of Nightmares, and even though Gisela, the Broken Blade s susceptible to a Firebolt, you get a lot for 4 mana.

Baneslayer Angel: Big-beater-clock that keeps you alive. It also serves as a removal sponge, since thiss is a card your opponent will have to remove one way or another, making it easier for you to drop the heavier angels.

Thalia's Lancers: For tudoring up any legendaries including Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.

Linvala, the Preserver: Very good at getting you back into the game, in case you're behind on HP or creatures.

Bruna, the Fading Light: As said before Bruna, the Fading Light + Gisela, the Broken Blade = Brisela, the Voice of Nightmares. Her reanimation effect is also rather sweet, should you happen to have an Iona, shield og emeria lying in your gravyard (or any other big angel).

Akroma, Angel of Wrath: Finisher, gets around a lot of stuff, and with a ridiculous kit. Also a good plan B if you're having a hard time getting rid of a planeswalker.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope: Great finisher - prevents all you stuff from being destroyed, suddenly making Wrath of God a one sided board wipe.

Iona, Shield of Emeria: It takes a lot of effort to cast her, but once you manage to get her onto the board, it's almost certainly gg.

Lands:

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx: With a deck consisting of so many high-cost, high-devotion permanents, the deck must containt Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, not only will you need it but it's also too good to exclude.

Emeria, The Sky Ruin: Easy to activate since the deck is monowhite and unless your opponent has any exile effects, the value of the reanimate effect is huge once you get to the late game.

Enchantments:

Oblivion Ring: Mostly used to maintain plainswalkers or key-pieces (for example Cranial Plating). Not that they do not eist, but the modern meta lacks a lot of effective enchantment removal. You can also use it in combination with Emancipation Angel to bounce Oblivion Ring, which can be very effective.

Sorceries:

Wrath of God: For board clear.

Instants:

Path to Exile: Best removal in the format.

Early game: You always want to establish control with Knight of the White Orchid and Wall of Omens. Depending on what you're up against, the main goal in the early game can vary a lot. Against fast decks all you gotta focus on is staying alive long enough to get a Baneslayer Angel or Gisela, the Broken Blade onto the battlefield. You'll never wanna start with an Emancipation Angel in your hand against these decks, since it'll put you behind. Playing against decks with a slower pace, Emancipation Angel is rather good - you can use it to bounce Knight of the White Orchid or Wall of Omens, generating more value and at the same time it lets you swing for 3 in the air in round four.

Mid game: Contrary to the early game, where the focus basicallt is "dump your hand onto the battlefield" the mid game. Being a mono-white control deck means, you're the worst at generating card advantage. Dumping all your permanents onto the board might seem tempting, but it easily allows your opponent to pick you appart and remove them. If you play greedy, you simply wont make it till late game. Cast any of Archangel of Tithes, Baneslayer Angel, Thalia's Lancers or Linvala, the Preserver and start putting some pressure on your opponent if it's safe, else stay put and remove your opponents stuff with Oblivion Ring or Path to Exile.

Late game: By this time Emeria, The Sky Ruin should be active. Resolve one of your big legendary angels and go for the beat down. Iona, Shield of Emeria is good if you want to lock down your opponent, but almost any angel will do the trick, as long as you make sure it wont be exiled.

I brought a version almost identical to this deck to my first local tournament, and did (against my epectations)quite well. I managed to beat infect and living end, and did a 1 out of 3 against affinity and mardu land destruction,Almost winning the last 2 of them. At that time, the deck didn't have any Leyline to Sancity, which meant I lostmiserably to burn and a special combo deck built around card name. With other words, if i'd had the the deck as itis here, and had I played a bit better, I could very well have made it at least 4 out of 6.
