I run a mono white tokens at fnm regularly. Ive placed first with it a few times and top 3 loads of times beating out tron, grixis death's shadow, and affinity on multiple occasions.
I like Doomed Traveler as well in place of Secure the Wastes Each contribute uniquely to the deck.
With Doomed Traveler it raises your chance of being able to convoke your
Triplicate Spirits
on turn 3 and hour or reckoning turns it into a spirit token which is always beneficial.
Secure the Wastes is good if you get a lot of mana and is a great mid game top deck so i think it wins out overall.
Convoking is one of the combos. Gather the Townsfolk is nice and especially nice if you can use fateful hour to pull out a win.
Imagine mid game having Soul Warden out and a 2 pumps (one being Path of Bravery) amd plenty of mana. You are at 5 hp. You cast Gather the Townsfolk for 2 mana gaining 5 hp and 5 2/2's.The next turn you cast Launch the Fleet for 5. You then attack with all 5 tokens. That spawns 5 more 2/2's tapped and attacking. So you heal 10hp from path of bravery and 5 more from soul warden taking you to 25hp and boosting all of your tokens to 3/3's. So you are swinging 30 damage to their face one turn after starting with one soul warden on the field Combos like this are not overly uncommon.
Once in a while you goldfish (like any deck) by having multiple Launch the Fleet,
Triplicate Spirits
, and
Hour of Reckoning
and no creatures, but it is rare. It can be worth keeping a hand without any token spawning because if you draw 2 or 3 pumps in you starting hand it is really probable that you will draw into tokens which can come out turn 2 or 3 pumped up already.
The curve is relatively low. While weak to ratchet bomb and engineered explosives but Secure the Wastes helps mitigate that substantially.
Launch the Fleet wins me a lot of games as do the Spirit Tokens
And my deck is super budget.
The deck is simple and effective and unhurt by
Hour of Reckoning
which i often cast with 3 or 4 plains on the field as a one sided board wipe.
