A Frog with Mommy Issues

Commander / EDH BGW (Abzan, Junk)

ZaZe18

This deck follows a classic hatebears strategy with Thalia and The Gitrog Frog at the helm. Thanks to our access to Abzan colors, we're in a fantastic position to utilize a pod subtheme to fully realize the strategic flexibility of the deck.

First, we'll build a strong early game with the help of some classic mana dorks. Our delightful little guys will serve as incredible value and pivot points in the deck, as they ramp us in the early and mid game, offer an easy sacrifice choice for the best bear for any situation we might encounter, and lastly, function as an ideal workaround into our own stax effects, such as Hokori and Winter Orb.

Next, we'll rely on our hatebears to put the absolute fucking kibosh on the copious amounts of tomfoolery, horseplay, and further assorted bullshit with which our opponents would otherwise ruin our game. Our dastardly and devious little stinkers, such as Hushbringer, Collector Ouphe, and others, will keep the game under control throughout the mid and late game as we generate incredible value with our commander, Thalia and the Gitrog Monster, a 4/4 with first strike and deathtouch. We'll be swinging early and swinging often with our power couple from hell, threatening life totals with a deceptively large amount of commander damage, generating compelling card advantage, and carving through our opponents would-be blockers.

To ensure we draw into a suitable winning game state, we'll also use a collection certified GOATS from the magical land of green draw, such as Toski, Ohran Frostfang, and Keeper of Fables. These absolute fucking units, coupled with Big Frog and his Dommy Mommy, will reliably draw into our win conditions with exceptional and impressive velocity.

Finally, as we approach the late game, we'll be looking for our win conditions: One of several overrun effects to convert our hatebears into oppressive threats in the red zone as well as outside, and our commander into an infuriatingly evasive beast, now with trample to pair with its prepackaged keywords of first strike and deathtouch. Alternatively, we are running a copy of the OG Elesh Norn, to authoritatively tell our opponents' creatures to get fucked while simultaneously enabling our creatures to go Sicko Mode.
