Oh Kay Folks, So here we go!I've seen quite a few Mill decks and I figured, what the hell, I might as well give it a shot. I play tested the eff out of this MAWF and it works, I had a hiccup against a tier one mono black deck... then I put my pomes in it after I took a piss and realized, that the only way to beat it, is to control more and wait for an AEtherling or play there Desecration Demon with Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. So yea. Anyways, that has been my experience so far. I think its time to break this Mill Machine down a little bit now.
Alphabetically...
Main Deck:
AEtherling oh kay this mawf is a perfect win condition, him and his buddy basically say, win the game... this is only possible with 7 mana or more... A word of caution, he is tough to play. so for all you fresh magic junkies, do not put four of him in your deck and look at him like a 7 drop. You are going to want to blink him out and save his ass. He is a dope card and he wins games... I wouldn't consider him as a "WIN" condition for this deck... he's like a "Win More" condition...
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver even though we got this cross dressing Marilyn Manson looking MAWF in here as a 3 of... he can do some work if you get him out early... if you can knock out three lands from your opponents lib early, and prevent them from hitting there 4 drop thats dope. the thing is people don't want the pope of darkness landing and they will try to get rid of him. so he also acts like a sponge. against R/G or any other creature heavy decks. BOOM. you can play some gnarly creatures... so yea, its nice to have him in an opening hand. again though, as with any control deck, you gotta drop it with proper timing, otherwise you suck. however, Ashiok will indeed buy you some time because people will swing at it before you.
Consuming Aberration DONT SWING WITH THIS BITCH! do not, unless you are %100 sure you will win. trust me. I've lost too many games because i figured swinging with a 45/45 Aberration would win me the game and it got removed... and I was pissed. let him be a blocker. you want the extra mill condition with this deck. he basically. He is also nice on turn five or six as an extra blocker even if he is just a 3/3 or 4/4. so yea. keep him around.
Doom Blade what's that Stormbreath Dragon? oh you just got murdered? whats that mist cutter? right... eft you... whats that early mana-ramping elf? Right, dead! eff you and your dog. doom blade is dope.
Omenspeaker 1/3 scry 2, set up my draw, move away some extra lands, early or late game this card is DOPE.
Far / Away haha, my buddy gave me this cause I only had 59 cards and was gonna throw in another land... lol... jokes on him, this card does work. I might throw in more.
Hero's Downfall Eff you and your planes walker. suck it... again though guys... make sure you know when you are casting this. the last thing you want is to get it countered... it is a powerful card but can be countered. thats the thing about removal... make sure you know what you are getting into. playing control is nothing like playing aggro... its hard and you gotta play a strong waiting game.
Jace, Memory Adept
play mill ten. and if you can afford it. use his +1 and draw. I've used both his abilities and they are both strong. they help you out. he's a five drop... only down side. and people want to kill him asap. but that is better than them killing you.
Mind Grind
this is a late game spell but it does work. ideally you wont have it in your opening hand as your not gonna want to do this on three mana, but having four in there means you can board one out for your other matches...
Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker
this guy can do some serious work... he is so bad ass he floats above ravnica waiting to feed off the minds of planes walkers too stupid to kill him... he's a topless rock star who makes twilight vamps quiver in there glitter filled boots. and he's a vampire, which is just plain cool and he basically hits your opponent 2 and then says eff you and drinks there brains ... it is just really cool...
Psychic Strike I really love this counter, I'd rather play other cards but this is in here for flavour and to just put that extra pressure on whoever your playing. who knows you might hit something big with those two cards.
Rakdos's Return oh god, destroying someones hand is a good feeling. and giving them damage, and then redirecting that damage to there plains walker... this card is magnificent. and it is another one of those... EFF YOU cards... it's fun to play.
Syncopate
do it for one on turn 2, do it for 2 on turn 3 do it for 3 on turn 4... its good stuff and a very versatile spell. it's good.
Traumatize
it's good, it wont win you the game, but it will get you there, especially if you have the control. Mark Rosewater calls it a magical car that wont get you where you want to go... but it will get you close... http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/mm/73 its pretty cool.
Side board:
AEtherling you will want to put this in against a control deck. take out a doom blade.
Chandra, Pyromaster a very good card. the zero ability is quite nice and the +1 is also quite nice. she would be more of a win more card, I honestly don't really know why she is in here aside from the fact that I just like her.
Dissolve
a very good card, when playing control, throw in three! take out removal. that is all.
Dreadbore amazing card, gets rid of walkers. nice pice of removal. 2 drop... good stuff.
Rakdos's Return hits the hand, you might want to use it.
Slaughter Games you will need this when people have Sphinx's Revelation and Pithing Needles.
Thoughtseize this is the most interesting card. board it against control, but against r/g aggro, they can just ignore it. and the fact that it does 2 damage to you make's it easier for them to kill you. don't buy into the hype... it's not the best card ever. it's good under the right conditions and its tough to know what those are. I'm not a good enough magic player to main deck 4 of these. lol. but I am good enough to know that I want to hit someones sphinx's.
PHEW... that sum's up the deck.
please let me know what I should change, odds are there are cards I've never looked at and that is what makes the game dope.
thanks!
