Commander / EDH* Aggro Artifact Casual Equip Partner RW (Boros)

This should be a fun version of an equipment-based deck with two Kor-soldiers as commanders.

As creatures there's a couple Kor from the kitesail brigade of Zendikar that are willing to help our far-traveled duo and some more useful creatures that don't help the flavor of the deck but the actual playability.

  • Gold Myr, Iron Myr are in the deck in favor of Marble Diamond and Fire Diamond. Budget and effectiveness even out so the only consideration is basically whether I want to have a backup unit that can, in the most dire situation, hold a weapon. Additionally they can be recurred with Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, which seems unimportant but ok. The tradeoff of course is that these rocks are more vulnerable.

  • Weathered Wayfarer might be a weird inclusion but there is utility in our land slots so tutoring for artifact lands or draw lands lategame should still be ok. The tapland count was reduced since the deck needs to be explosive when it can. Still there are a couple things itching me: Cathedral of War, Flamekin Village, Needle Spires all have merit, but out of all of those and Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion, Rogue's Passage the village might be the best. Tight play lets me refrain from too many generic mana sources as well and the Passage and Sunhome are kinda bad for the cost, sure they're not if they end the game but otherwise..

  • Keeper of the Accord of course seemed like an auto include and a couple tokens as backup for a strategy that leans into Voltron just makes me feel safer, even more so with the janky monarchy cards I was eager to try out. Speaking of them Archon of Coronation is definitely not how I want my six drops to play out after thinking about it. I'd rather save the moneys and put in Karn, Scion of Urza for a bit of card advantage and quite some artifact synergy. Court of Grace will stay for now but I fear I'll cut that too sooner than later. Grenzo, Havoc Raiser seems interesting, not sure how well it could work though.

  • You know the absolute goodstuff that's needed in this kind of deck Puresteel Paladin, Sram, Senior Edificer are autoincludes for sure. Myr Retriever, Ironclad Slayer, Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, Cavalier of Dawn, Sun Titan are quite helpful in getting back what got lost on the route.

  • Boros Reckoner is included for the moment though there's no combos built in, it's fine in the combat area where we ought to be doing well either way so that might not help too much without a combo. His inclusion alone kinda asks for damage based wipes to lean more into red.

  • Leonin Shikari is closest to being included. But I value mana for protection higher than for pseudo combat tricks in retrofitting our gear. Relic Seeker seems pretty bad to me if drawn too late, but I might need to play him a couple times to see how good he still is lategame when equipped himself but I tend to like the Goblin tutors (Goblin Welder, Goblin Engineer) more. Still not sure if I want to include them, the kitesail brigade helps flavor wise and that is a bit more important to me personally.

Lets pretend Ardenn, Intrepid Archeologist has found lots of crazy stuff over time in the skyclaves. We're gonna have fun with that.

  • Highly important are 1-cost equipments. In this case they're mostly utility but there's a couple heavy hitters as well. Prying Blade producing treasures is an incredibly neat interaction in favor of Akiri, Line-Slinger. O-Naginata is indeed a double-edged one, because the clause has no synergy with the early weapon wielders we play. If we draw some of those and want to spare Akiri for maximum artifact buff but we get only an O-Naginata and a couple value equipments I think we're forced to run out Akiri first, which I don't like. Otherwise it's beefy and costs nothing which goes very well here. Masterwork of Ingenuity is another one that needs a couple games to really evaluate I guess.

  • In between all the staples there's Scythe of the Wretched and Kusari-Gama which I am really excited about. Definitely oddball includes but I really like how they work with all our "when equipped creature deals combat damage to a player" value. I'd really like to include Heartseeker as well but since our recursion is limited to 3 cost or less Hammer of Nazahn is by far the more favorable outlier. Seraphic Greatsword might be out as soon as Halvar, God of Battle   drops to a low price, which I am hopeful he does. Might also be possible to switch it for Sword of Sinew and Steel because this one and Grenzo both have another dimension to their play I think and might be interesting cards to play.

Since we're a combat deck we want cheap interaction and therefore it's not hard to bundle them to be good with sunforger. I packed all the good to very good interaction I could think of here. Sejiri Shelter   I like very much and actually thought of including another actually cheap protection spell like Emerge Unscathed but they're so narrow I'm rather doubtful. As I am with Lapse of Certainty but it's just a bad troll tbh, lackluster counterspells in white.

It's not out of the question that the mentioned removal is too redundant and Chaos Warp might not be the best choice since it is second to Generous Gift but the most important thing it hits would be enchantments or artifacts. At least one of both Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile should be a cut in favor of Wear / Tear or Crush Contraband I suspect. Redundancy in Lightning Bolt and the more narrow bolt mode of Abrade made me remove Abrade.

Deflecting Palm as well as Response / Resurgence are considerations since we might need have tools that might provide big and even unexpected swings. Ride Down is just a form of narrow removal that really shouldn't be needed so you don't even see it here.

Our sweepers are fine I think, Slash the Ranks got cut because the overloaded Winds of Abandon catches my eye and the card doesn't cost a fortune either so sooner or later one should be able to acquire one I'm sure. But I am really keen on including Zo-Zu the Punisher firstly because I like another way to draw my opponents' attention and hurt them besides combat and him going off on that overloaded Winds of Abandon is something I just neeeed to witness.

Considerations atm:

Nevertheless if you got some experience in playing with a couple of loose parts you notice or got something else that comes to your mind looking at the deck be sure to share!
