Deck #24

The story goes as follows:

My fellow commander players/deck brewers gonki and Sergal attend a weekly FNM Commander group at a comic shop, and a popular, yet highly overplayed choice, is Meren of Clan Nel Toth , and we've found, along with everyone else in the world, that Meren is very breakable. Our final breaking point was the card:Triskelion + Mikaeus, the Unhallowed combo, in two consecutive games. So we talked and decided to figure out how to build the anti-Meren deck around the perfect commander.

Thus, Anafenza, the Foremost ! She's got built in graveyard hate, plus she's in the best colors to deal with graveyards in general! For my build, I went the budget route (as I tend to do), keeping it under $75 while still maintaining consistency in removal and providing other potential threats. This also fills my Abzan deck need in my color wheel project, so that's a double win.

This is by no means the only way to build this. Here is gonki's list: deck:anafenza-has-a-posse

And here is Sergal's list: Anafenza (A Deck Made to Hate Your Graveyard)

Both of these are just as effective with more money dumped in. Enjoy!

Note: this may suck horribly, as I built this in a short period of time, so tinkering is still an option. Any suggestions are welcome, though keep it within the budget (as of original post, I have $7-8 to spare, so there's a bit of wiggle room).

Second note: this goes against my reuse of cards throughout the same decks a lot, but when you're mad, you want the best options to win within your preset conditions.

Anafenza graveyard hate is so good I can start moving away in general from using things that are ineffective with her on the battlefield and more towards a more aggressive scheme.

Out are Hedonist's Trove and Necromancer's Covenant. Also out are Adarkar Valkyrie (also not super good, but will end up finding a home in my Avacyn deck) and Viridian Emissary.

In their place are Ulvenwald Observer (for better draw), Heron, Heron's Grace (for much needed protection), Thunderfoot Baloth (self explanatory), and Courser of Kruphix, to help with mana. The last one pushed the amount of the deck beyond the budget by a couple of dollars, but I'm okay with that. I'm moving the card over from my Omnath deck since I'm good with mana there.

Current cost: $77.68
