So I brought this deck to gameday and identified a few weaknesses and what I want to do with them. First lets go over the matchups and my overall impressions.
Round 1 - VS. RW Aggro - Loss 0-2: My dec was not ready for agro at all. Game 2 I did better, but didn't really have an answer for burn spells.
Round 2 - VS. Mono Red Aggro (splash green) - Loss 0-2: Same story as round 1 really, just didn't get enough kill spells off to matter.
Round 3 - BYE
Round 4 - VS. Mono Black Devotion - Win 1-0-1: Game 1 took forever, my board whipes stalled the game and eventually after every single win con was used except ashiok, I just milled him out with 2 min left in the round. He was going to concede game 2 but I convinced him to take a tie since it would look better for him in tie breakers.
Round 5 - VS. UB Control - Loss 0-2: Games went long, I just ran out of win cons and kill spells so he killed me with a combo of Pearl Lake ancient and ugin at the end.
Round 6 - VS. Abzan Midrange - Win 2-1: I lost game 1 but came back game 2 and he resigned the last game to me. Valorous stance did some work in this matchup, so it is a definite keep.
Overall changes:
-I needed one more win con, just so at that point in the game all the kill spells and counters have been used up I can throw something down. So I added Pearl Lake Ancient as a one of. This guy did work against me, wasteing most of my kill spells and board wipes when I faced UB Control.
-Neutralizing blast was mostly a dead card, when I needed a counter for dig or stoke I had that in hand and couldn't use it. So I swapped it for Disdainful stroke, and went with negate in SB.
-I will always loose game 1 to aggro, period. So my goal is to make my MB as strong as possible against every other matchup, then when I face aggro make my SB as strong as possible against that (hence pretty much only 2 non aggro cards in my SB).
Next challenge: SCG Los Angeles.
