Sideboard

This is deck I use for quite long time now and must say it's one of my best creations. Mean I created it without help from other sources - ofcourse someone else made it too - I'm sure of it :) It's made as an Angel theme deck, that's why even if there are better cards out there I didn't use them if they didn't fulfil at least one of these rules:

1 - Subtype of creature is an Angel

2 - Name of card contains word Angel or other to Angels related word

3 - There's an Angel somewhere in cards art

Only exception to this rule is Wall of Omens - it's just too good to not be played. Ofcourse there's Angelic Wall if I wanted blocker only. True - it's anti-flyer but drawing card is drawing card, isn't it? And there's Day of Judgment and artifacts too. Well... I just can't have everything, now can I?

Playing this deck is simple. You do nothing but defend yourself in first few rounds (Wall of Omens + "Fogs" + Day of Judgment) while accumulating mana ( Armillary Sphere and Expedition Map). It's fun to see enemys face when you spam your defend spells while you're lucky to get Luminarch Ascension on the table on 2nd or 3rd turn. :D If situation isn't bad enough not to do so, then in 5th turn is the best to start droping Angels. It doesn't matter if opponent is able to kill them (Not exile! That would be really bad!) because in this stage of game their purpose is still only to slow down enemy. If you rescue them with Cloudshift - fine but it really doesn't matter depending on the situation. Your goal is to get working Emeria, The Sky Ruin to get them back anyway. Angels in this deck are powerfull enough to crush the enemy in few turns, not speaking about your own army of Angels from working Luminarch Ascension. And the best moment of game? 5 Plains on the table, one Plains, "fog" and Sunblast Angel (and whatever else) in hand and opponents "countless army" attacking you... See the point? :D :D I just love that "WTF!" face when I fog them "as usual" and drop Sunblast Angel or when I Cloudshift him... "Feel the wrath of my Angels!!"

And Sideboard? I used it in about 10% of games when playing against control decks only and Oblivion Ring and/or Leyline of Sanctity is the only thing I used anyway... :P

By the way...yes - this deck contains 64 cards and only 22 lands but I just couldn't decide what to remove to improve mana ratio. Still I had mana problems only rarely. ;)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Extended 5th October 2012 Rotation <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Oh well... Nothing lasts forever... After this date I'll loose Angelsong , Armillary Sphere and Battlegrace Angel . What to do now? There are 2 choices:

1 - "Let Angels fall!" to Modern format.

Here we have quite a lot possible improvements for deck. Some Fogs can be replaced with Holy Day (or Dawn Charm but its not enough "angelic" for me). OR... if you don't care about angelic theme there are cards like Ethereal Haze, Pollen Lullaby and Luminesce for Sideboard to make fogs more effective. Artifacts searching for lands can be replaced by useful Gift of Estates but I'd not use it since it works only if you have less lands then opponent. Or if you feel like it there's Journeyer's Kite too. It's slower but can find you even more Plains. As for other parts of deck I'm ok with them but what you do with it is your problem :)

Or......

2 - "Lets face even higher dangers, Sisters!" by replacing rotated cards and continue Extended with weaker version.

Angelsong is dificult one to replace. There's somehow angelic Divine Deflection but for function of this deck it's utterly useless. Only spell that makes some sense is another somehow angelic spell "destroy almost all" Divine Reckoning even though thats not fog. Still it's usable especially when you can cast it twice. If you really want a fog, then only usable thing is Soul Parry . Really don't know which is better... may be 50/50? Next... Armillary Sphere was in deck for Plains (basic land) searching while Expedition Map to find Emeria, The Sky Ruin (non-basic land). As replacement you can choose from Mycosynth Wellspring or Traveler's Amulet. It's only bad you can use Mycosynth Wellspring only when coming to play but you can allways consider adding somehow angelic Divine Offering or non-angelic Solemn Offering (both in Sideboard btw) or quite useful Trading Post. Last one is Battlegrace Angel . Two of them can be easily replaced with another two Baneslayer Angels but next 2 are a bit tricky and really depends on your preferences. I used them as life gainers so may be Victory's Herald can replace them but for me "6 mana creature" is reserved for Sunblast Angel so let's not and Seraph of Dawn is a little bit too weak for me. Other Angels have their uses too... for example Emancipation Angel to draw again with Wall of Omens or Mycosynth Wellspring ... or Restoration Angel which is more powerful but can work only with Wall of Omens... or Sublime Archangel for attack support (I personally have to forget about this one since I'm not so rich.)... May be adding Aegis Angel to protect some permanent would be suitable action to do too but I would go for Platinum Angel...

So... That's it folks... What do you think?
