Creature (1)

Here's my tournament deck, with a winrate of about 65% at local FNMs.
I like the way midrange can go either fast or slow. With UWR spanning great removal, burn, countermagic and hardhitters like Geist of Saint Traft this deck can do a lot. The archetype UWR Midrange only constitutes 2-4% of Modern at the time, which means that this deck often flies a bit under the radar.

The Core Strategy

Usually the deck wins by clearing space for Geist of Saint Traft to go to town. In that way this a very much a tempo deck. However we can go about this in many ways.

The deck has a big load of removal, which means that we can deal with creature aggressive decks. There is built-in anti burn with Lightning Helix and counterspells trade one for one with burn spells.

Against Twin we have a million ways to interrupt their combo and when the game draws out they are bound to take some hits.

What we don't like

Liliana of the Veil is downright cruel against this deck. Her discard picks our hand apart, when we'd like to sit back with a lot of anwers for stuff. An she's one of the few answers to a resolved Geist. Fortunately we have the option of just not letting her resolve. And if she does we have Blade Splicer and Elspeth, Knight-Errant to mitigate the creature sacrifice.
Scavenging Ooze can be a big problem if we're short on Path to Exiles. The Ooze is quickly out of bolt range and any Paths in the graveyard is now on lockdown. The way to beat it is to be on guard when playing a deck that might want to play Ooze.
