What is this deck?

It's utter bullshit, that's what. A godforsaken pile of value, draw, and unnecessarily large creatures.

And it's fucking epic.

This deck revolves around Animar, Soul of Elements. Animar is powerful, hard to remove, and cheap. There are a ton of ways to build around them, but this deck focuses on their last ability, which discounts creatures. The more creatures you play, the more they get discounted, until eventually you're playing Blightsteel Colossus for free. If you can't win with big creatures, you can still go infinite with Peregrine Drake, Temur Sabertooth and Animar. Can't find the cards? Don't worry, this deck runs Craterhoof Behemoth and Creater-blue-f to win on the spot. And if you really want to make your friends hate you, you can drop a Primal Surge to put your deck on the battlefield and win out of nowhere with Thassa's Oracle/Laboratory Maniac

To start out a game with this deck, you'll want to ramp out Animar as fast as possible - hopefully turn 2. You'll also want to play some of the set-up cards, like Hydra's Growth, Garruk's Uprising and Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner. Once you have them out, you can begin to play ever-bigger creatures, draw a bunch of cards, and hopefully win.

As mentioned in "How to play this deck," the most straightforward wincon is to play a shit ton of big creatures. The deck has quite a few: Blightsteel, Ulamog, Kozilek, Emrakul - yeah. All of these cards can KO a player in their own right, and things get silly when you're casting them for free. Apex Devastator can hit most of the big creatures in the deck for just if you have enough counters on Animar, and Maelstrom Wanderer is much the same - plus, he gives all of your creatures haste.

Playing into this gameplan, Craterhoof Behemoth and Sun Quan, Lord of Wu can come down and just kinda win. Hoof wins pretty easily with a few creatures out, and Sun Quan gives all your creatures horsemanship. What is horsemanship? It means your creatures can't be blocked. Seems deece.

If the "throw shit on the board until you win" strategy isn't working (maybe due to a boardwipe), you can still win the deck's backup strategy - Animar, Soul of Elements + Peregrine Drake + Temur Sabertooth . Peregrine Drake can be discounted to with Animar, Soul of Elements. Peregrine Drake makes five mana by untapping lands when it ETBs, meaning you get a net gain of . Pair this with . Pair this with Temur Sabertooth to return Drake to your hand. You're where you started but now you have extra mana. Congratulations: You made an infinite loop. Note: Palinchron is a one-card infinite combo when paired with Animar, and works in the same way. If you build this deck, you might want to add this combo. I didn't due to concerns about colored mana.

I saved the best wincon for last - Primal Surge + Thassa's Oracle . Primal Surge, when played, puts your entire deck onto the battlefield, leading to a surprise wincon with Thassa's Oracle and Laboratory Maniac. If your opponent can't stop the Surge, you win. It's like Insurrection, but somehow even less fair!

Hydra's Growth, Hardened Scales and Ozolith, the Shattered Spire increase the counters on Animar. The Eldrazi Titans can be cast for free if you have enough counters. Defiler of Vigor is just absurd, making into , and buffing the entire board. I've already gone into the combos, so I won't put those here.

The best card in the deck is definitely Momir Vig, Simic Visionary. He makes blue spells into card draw and turns your green creatures into Worldly Tutor. This means that all creatures in the deck fetch combo pieces and other wincons. You can win pretty much instantly when you play him.

Finally, I would be remiss to neglect Primal Surge. I already covered it, but it is what the entire deck is built around. ONLY PLAY IT WHEN NO ONE HAS MANA UP! I can't stress this enough. You NEED it to resolve, because if it resolves, you win - unless someone has a way to disrupt both Lab Man and Thoracle - Tyrant Guard can stop that but isn't perfect. Dress Down in response to Surge loses you the game by stopping both wincons, so make sure to play around cheeky instants.

You might like this deck if:

  • You enjoy playing combos

  • You're a Timmy, enjoying splashy effects

  • You want value and card draw

  • You love Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty but wish that she had red.

You might not like this deck if:

  • You like control and midrange strategies

  • You want a more budget deck

  • You don't want to play a generic valuepile

  • You dislike "win buttons" and infinite combos.

If you liked this deck and want to try something similar but a bit less BS-y, you might enjoy Averna does silly value things, a Temur cascade deck. If you want something more controlling, you'll probably like He sees you when you're sleeping [Umbris EDH], a Dimir horrors tribal/mill deck with all the Ashioks. If you just want straight control, try Memnarch's Eleven, a mono-blue theft/control deck. And if you're more of a Johnny and want to have fun with infinite combos, tokens, and Blightsteel Colossus, try Oops, all blightsteels! [Brudiclad EDH]. I also now have a superfriends deck LET HER COOK! [[Lae'zel//Master Chef EDH]], and the most idiotic Artifacts deck on the site, Oops, all artifacts! [[Umori//Ramos EDH]].

Thank you so much for looking at this deck. Leave an upvote and a comment if you enjoyed, and have a great day!
