I wanted to see if I could make a deck that wasn't tribal but could act like it was. Seemed fun, and since it's Simic it's powerful too. Don't be fooled by the competitive rating! This deck is insane, not to mention fun and combo heavy.

Goals

  • Early game (1-4): Get enough mana to play your commander. This is what the entire deck is built around. It can be beneficial to wait to play cards like Sakura-Tribe Elder until Volo comes out, as he doubles the value of that card.

  • Mid game (5-7): Get a hold of a few stand-out creatures, and especially cards like doubling season and parallel lives. Card draw is never a problem with this deck once you get rolling.

  • Late game (8-11): Play your creatures and stand-out combos, and roll over your opponents quickly and hard. The DPS when you have stuff set up can be insane! In normal play I get my creatures to be +80/+80 trample monsters around this turn.

Stand-out Creatures (Keep in mind the commander creates a copy of it for free!):

  • Altered Ego: Only shapeshifter in the deck, play it with X being zero. You basically get two of the best creatures on the field, usually more.

  • Apex Devastator: 8 cascades, at minimum. With the token multipliers you can potentially get 20 cascade triggers, potentially even more. Also the only Chimera in the deck.

  • God-Eternal Rhonas: To be fair, you might be thinking "He's a legend, the copies don't matter!" That's where you're wrong. The copies still enter the field before you sac them. Keep the original. When you play him, he literally boosts the damage of every creature you control by 4x-16x. This alone is game winning.

  • Karametra's Acolyte: With your commander and her alone, she pays for herself. Add extra green devotion and/or copies of her, and you'll never want for mana again.

  • Loyal Guardian: Two-five +1/+1 counters every combat. Need I say more?

  • Nyxbloom Ancient: His effect stacks on itself, meaning by playing this card, your lands produce 9 mana at minimum. Get multiple copies of him, and one land can be worth hundreds of mana by itself.

  • Thunderfoot Baloth: At the low end, he gives everything +4/+4 and trample. At the high end? +10/+10 and trample to everything, making himself a 15/15 alone. Combo in Rhonas? That's game!

  • Curiosity Crafter: No hand size limit by itself, not to mention the fact all your copies are tokens. They can draw your whole deck for you the turn they come out.

Key Combo Pieces:

  • Doubling Season: Whenever you play a creature, you get two extra copies of it.

  • Parallel Lives: Cheaper version of doubling season, minus counter combos.

  • Second Harvest: Super useful, especially at instant speed. Keep it on you until needed, as playing it can just win you the game.

  • Laboratory Maniac: Since he's the same exact creature types as the commander, he'll never be cloned. But even still, keep him in the deck. You can draw your whole deck with cards like Braingeyser, Finale of Revelation, Rishkar's Expertise, and Stroke of Genius.

I had fun making this, so please give me feedback! Thanks for reading!
