Sideboard

Maybeboard

Creature (2)

Artifact (1)

Instant (2)

This is a mostly post-rotation Izzet artifact burn/aggro deck that only needs a few changes to main and side boards when KTK drops.

The main goal is to use Ensoul Artifact on one of the many artifact creatures in the deck to put pressure on an opponent. It then utilizes Shrapnel Blast and Scuttling Doom Engine to finish games.

Chief Engineer and Generator Servant provide Mana ramp for the Doom Engine while Thassa, God of the Sea provides scry and on demand unblockable. The Lightning Strike and Stoke the Flames provide creature control when necessary and burn otherwise.

The sideboard attempts to provide answers for the most common standard decks that I've seen in my local meta but will certainly change when new decks appear after rotation.

AEtherspouts and Polymorphist's Jest are there against aggro decks to help clear the opponent's board.

Circle of Flame is there to provide defense against Elspeth, Sun's Champion tokens and Rabble Red decks. It synergizes very well with Polymorphist's Jest .

Bident of Thassa is there for extra card draw if needed and to help even more with the clearing of the opponent's board. Synergizing nicely with Polymorphist's Jest , AEtherspouts, and Circle of Flame , it can even be effective against higher power creature decks like Mono-Black Devotion, G/W Aggro and Green/Gruul/Jund decks around Xenagos and Polukranos, World Eater.

Negate is there to come in against control and burn decks, and Gainsay is there specifically to play against U/W Control and Mono-Blue Devotion.

Nightveil Specter is there to go against spell decks to steal the opponent's drops and to provide additional devotion for Thassa and/or Keranos in case more aggro is needed.

Keranos, God of Storms is there to provide extra draw and extra burn against spell decks but could probably be adapted to a variety of matchups.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome and I hope to take some people by surprise during these last days of pre-KTK standard!

Took this deck to a standard tournament to see how it would fare. Went 1-2 with a bye. Beat a mono-green ramp that was trying to build Setessan Oathsworn and the like with Giant Growth and Ordeal of Nylea. Burn spells as creature control worked well and I got good draws.

Lost to another, more conventional Mono-Green ramp deck using Genesis Hydra. My Phyrexian Revokers played admirably but in the end he overpowered me. Also lost to R/W Burn due to poor card draw on my part and to a very good deck.

Conclusions that I've drawn from these games is that I needed to mainboard Keranos, God of Storms as the extra draw and pressure could be useful. Also found that while Stoke the Flames is good, the cost was too high most of the time and I had to cast it with Convoke most often which left me without much to block with. I took out all but one in favor of Magma Jet as I think the scry will help.
